Because you get a bonus to your stats based on your party members? I'm kind of surprised you haven't noticed it all the way to 50 considering you'd have gotten a VIT boost at the very least in every Duty using the DF. Having a Ninja or Bard in your party increases your DEX; having a Dragoon or a Monk increases your STR; having a Black Mage or Summoner increases your INT; having a Scholar increases your PIE; having a WHM increases your MND; and, for you to get more HP, having a Warrior or Paladin increases your VIT.

You're included in this, so you should have more MP inside Syrcus than out since you're a Scholar and PIE increases your max MP as VIT increases your max HP. i don't remember what the exact bonus is. i wanna say it's a low % but idfk

Considering how quickly you level and change gear going to 50 (not to mention getting level capped for dungeons) I could easily see someone not noticing the differences.

I definitely learned this fact outside of the game itself. It's not immediately apparent what the little [STR][VIT][DEX] icons lighting up means or that it's tied to your party composition.

oh yeah, I read about that once but never really thought about it. wasn't so noticeable until this level, especially now that I'm paying close attention to my HP/MP values as they rise through gear.

Yeah any time you have a tank in your party, you are receving a VIT bonus. IIRC the bonuses are

    STR: DRG, MNK
    DEX: NIN, BRD
    VIT: Tanks
    INT: BLM, SMN?
    MND: WHM
    PIE: SCH

They don't stack with multiple of the same attribute though; just if the "VIT" is lit up you have the (~3%?) bonus in effect.

    WoD down!

...I say this like it's an accomplishment lol. it was pretty easy. a lot of the bosses looked scary but when it came down to it Angra Mainyu's the only one who puts up a decent fight. Cloud is intense but as long as everyone knows the mechanics it's not even close to difficult.

gonna grind this out for left-side gear and then... who knows!

This. Fights are easy to learn, but holy shit at some of the people you will eventually see. Nothing makes you cringe more than having people think they can DPS down the first boss in ST before Daybreak and fail. Bonus points if the tanks ignore the adds and just keep bashing their head into the boss.

I've only had that happen a few times. except Scylla, but staff adds can and should be ignored.

which one was it... five-headed dragon, I think? where the other healer and I ended up tanking the dragon plant adds. which went about as well as you'd expect... /sigh

it's funny, I always end up giving my player commendation to the other healer. and I always get at least one... usually from them, I bet. we know each other's pain.

I meant the adds that spawn after Daybreak. I had a group that couldn't out DPS Daybreak, ignored pads, let the adds wreck people, then proceed to let the bodies pile up courtesy of oblivious tanks.

For plant adds, I think you mean Cerberus.

Pretty much why I threw in the towel with T9. No way in hell I'm dealing with randumbs/PF groups just to repeat the same process for T10-13.

    right, Cerberus. that's the one.

I never noticed the Scylla adds but I guess that means my groups have been decent. those dragon plants were the only time I remember the tanks just... not picking up adds, period. it was annoying as fuck.

either I've been pretty lucky so far or I haven't noticed the idiots because a) 24 people makes it easier to get away with stupid and b) mechanics in Crystal Tower are a lot more forgiving than coil. I haven't done coil yet but that's what I hear, anyway.

do keep in mind that people are new sometimes though... when I do coil, I am going to die until I get used to it. I'm going to read up, I'm going to watch videos, but I'm still going to die. might be one advantage of a static over DF; you can only be new to a fight so many times in a static, but DF there is always someone new.

All I really know is the tank in Alliance A is usually the one focused on adds. Tank B just keeps Unknowns on them when they're in the stomach, assuming they go in. I only tried once and wasn't too fond of it since when people did the ABC method, A team ignored adds and I got overwhelmed fast.

As for your comment, both are right. You can get away with some stupid shit, but on the other hand you have more chances of people pulling stupid shit. And the 24 man raids are nothing like the coil.

re: raid vs coil, I figured. coil kinda scares me lol.

and yeah the method I know is ABC = Adds, Belly, Chains. but basically I just stay outside and heal the fuck out of people getting hammered by adds. it works well enough.

on the cerby note, people who chain early really grind my gears... really? free damage is a bad thing now?

I love how I've run the raid four times and I already have feelings on it. mechanics will do that to you I guess.

Other than the final raid in each tier (T5 and T9) the coil isn't too bad. Though yeah have fun with those two if you DF.

Also, the ability "Mortal Gaze" that puts doom on you can be avoided by looking away from him. That is honestly the hardest mechanic as people stop paying attention.

about that - I know this, but I can never tell when he's casting it. is it because I'm a healer and my target is usually on the tank, not the mob? I don't think he announces Mortal Gaze like some of the other abilities.

I could just learn the rotation, I suppose. that's assuming it's a standard rotation.
