The game is really fun. Just by leveling 1 or 2 jobs to 60, doing the dungeons a few times, completing Alexander normal, etc. has enough entertainment for, easily, 2 months. If, after that, you still find enjoyment in leveling etc., the game can last you more. If you on the other hand find a decent group for doing Alexander Savage (and hardcore endgame is your cup of tea) you'll have stuff to do for 2-3 more months, unless you and your group are really good. If you get bored by the non-endgame content and can't or don't want to do endgame, then at least you had good fun for 2 whole months.

BLMs are also generally near the bottom of the DPS rankings along with MCH and BRD I believe.

BLMs and SMNs have a history of alternating positions in the DPS rankings as SE struggles to balance them. Since they mostly share gear except for weapons and the AF1/AF2/Esoteric sets, it's a good idea to learn to play both. That way whatever the flavor of the month is, you're covered. You also get SCH as a free bonus with your SMN, so if you decide at one point to try being a healer, you've got one foot in the door already. Also, SMN in XIV is nothing like SMN in XI, either, so don't let XI's version prejudice you.

BLM dps output currently is mostly dependent on A) how much the fight makes you move, and B) how well you know the fight so that you can predict when and where you'll have to move and work your rotation around it. On most fights I'm right behind the melee DPS if they're playing well, or slightly ahead of them if they're not.

TL;DR: Until you get to Alexander Savage where every last drop of dps counts, your BLM will do more than adequate damage for any content you want to do.

Sorry if my post come off wrong. I was talking end game strictly, which at this point is Alexander Savage. I would never complain about having a BLM in the PT for the leveling process or the majority of older content. If BlackBelt, or anyone else for that matter, doesn't plan on rushing to end game right this second there is nothing wrong with a BLM or PLD.

Reading within context is hard apparently. I'll break it down.

XIV is fun when it does things right. But when it does things wrong, it's pretty dreadful. I can appreciate XI for mostly staying consistent, so when I played that I was never really bored. I have however been painfully bored in XIV before, for a number of reasons.

Partially. I'm not saying there wasn't boring stuff in XI. There obviously was (I'd rather gouge my eyes out than to craft on XI). But if I choose to not do those things, there was something else I could get into that I can enjoy. This isn't really the case with XIV. It's either weekly endgame or craft/gather.

Nah it really isn't. You make super vague statements that apply to everything and think I need contextual breakdown for XIV specifically when I already know it applies to XIV (because XIV falls under everything).

More than anything it's funny you think XIV is subject to this more than anything else (like say, XI).

The game is becoming more fun since I actually personalized my settings and cleaned up my HUD. Now I kinda know what's going on more. The main problem just seems to be memorizing rotations and targeting multiple enemies faster. I'll probably try L1+ cycling. Yeah, I play on a console, wanna fight about it lol.

Eh, I play on PC with a controller! Well, I use the keyboard too for some less used actions, but I mostly play on controller. FFXIV is very well designed for playing with a controller, the cross hotbar idea is really, really good.
