I can stare at that Alison gif all day. What a gift to the universe lol.

Is there a way to turn off mount music? Terra's Theme is great and all, but I'm seriously missing the great music that's in some zones.
System config > Sound options > uncheck "Play music while mounted"
Am I anywhere geared well enough for Alexander Savage? This is the 2nd week I have done Normal and it's pretty damn simple as long as you have people that can follow basic directions. I hear that you absolutely need to have a static, I get why, but is this true?
Your fine for savage looking at your loadstone. You do not need a static but it will save you a loooot of headaches. Our group pugs people all the time and I have solo pug'd myself in coils and As. If you are puging for a learning group just make sure everyone is on voip who needs to be and you should be good.
Here is the biggest thing besides the obvious with pugs(shitters/different strats/waiting in pf) its that you can not just pick up where you left off so it is always a gamble. Assuming you get semi decent players, alex is a little harder than coil and even when you specify what phase/wave you want but people just join to get a clear and everyone has a different progression point. You can put clear party last phase only and do worse than a learning party :/
On the same vein: What are coils, turns, and phases? I keep seeing the words. Is it not an instance where you go in, beat boss and leave? Is it a raid that takes hours: going up multiple floors and rooms, with breaks in between or progress points?
Coil - Shorthand for "The Binding Coil of Bahamut" series of raids
Turn - Coil is a series of "Turns" per tier. 1-5 in the first tier, then 1-4 for the next two. People shorthand them as T1 through T13 though (1-5, 6-9, 10-13)
Phase - Sections of a fight that tend to been broken up by either enforced breaks, or a change of enemy pattern.
Although Kaisha explained it absolutely correctly, I always found giving an example based on what people are used to helps as well (in your case, you came from FFXI):
Remember Proto Ultima in Limbus? It had 5 phases, after each 20% of its HP lost it begins to use more and more moves, culminating with the Citadel Buster fun in the last 20%
Coil - as Kaisha said, shorthand term or possibly nickname. Likewise, Sea, Dynamis, Sky
Turn - Remember Einhenjar? It had separate rooms/wings, is basically how the endgame system works in FFXIV. In all but progression, you enter a section, clear it out, done. (In FFXI you collected key items to progress to Odin).
In FFXIV's current patch, the endgame raid is called "Alexander", or Alex, for short, split into 4 instances. There is also "Alexander Savage" which is basically Alex, but on steroids and the current patch/expansion's real endgame content. It's shorthand term is "A1" or "A1S" (number for the respective floors/rooms/instances, and S for Savage).
Savage requires extreme co-ordination and tuning of your gear/play style with 7 others to clear.
How fast is it possible to rank up in PVP? I'm found a great glamor piece, but it's a Rank 50 PVP Req.
Better start grinding now if you want to wear it anytime soon lol. But these days with the challenge log and daily FL roulette, you should be able to hit 50 faster than in 2.x. It took me about 2 weeks to hit 50 from 40 but it all depends on how much you grind out those games.
Maybe a month or so to get 50 if you start now and don't slack on roulettes.
Sorry for the dumb/obvious question, but as I'm coming upon 50 (I'm 49.5 now and 47 on MSQ) , what should my priorities be? Just continue to keep grinding the story? Is this where I start taking iLevel more seriously and start farming marks/seals or whatever? I'm only taking one job to main at the moment so I have my two subjob levels to 30ish and I've just been fate grinding and doing my logs. Ranked up in my grand company pretty fast too.
Should I bother with Grand company gear or save the seals for something else?
Keep doing the MSQ, and relevant zone quests in the expansion as they'll gear you up more properly for the dungeons following. You got a ton of MSQ in the 2.1-2.55 patch cycles to work through following Praetorium at lvl50 anyhow before all of that.
Wear the i90 AF gear you get and just keep going thru the MSQ, you can spend poetics you pick up along the way to buy new gear (i120, Rev toll NPC).
When you get to HW/Ishgard you can buy i115 gear from a vendor in the city for any slots you haven't updated with poetics gear, then just keep doing the MSQ to 60, quests will constantly toss new gear at you and you'll get dungeon drops as well.
I just did this on a mule. Don't bother buying gear if you don't want. You can stay geared off the 2.1-2.55 quests. You'll get enough gear to be i110 or so by the time you hit heavensward content and heavensward shits out gear too. You shouldn't need to buy anything before you start getting law/esoterics honestly.
I'm literally insane and want to grind up a relic for whatever unspecified leg up it gives on the 3.x relic. How has light farming changed since 2.x? I saw vague references to doubled values again (even after the doubling from 2.5), is that it?
It seems to be doubled again, yeah (so 4x the original values). I haven't seen any actual research, just anecdotal stuff though. If you're starting from scratch, or near scratch though, you uh, have quite the mountain ahead of you.
