Picking up his option was kind of a no brainer tbh. It's only fully guaranteed if he can't pass the physical at the end of this year. They can still cut bait after the season if they want and owe nothing.

Granted that's a risk with his injury history, but they can control the situation somewhat if he's playing like shit again just by sitting him. If he finds himself you have your QB next year for less than the franchise tag, and if he falls on his face again he was done anyway.
