its mind boggling to think about some of the crews that were together on the show.

the 2007 season had Fey, Poehler, Wiig, Meyer, Sudeikis, Samberg, Hader, Kenan, and Armisan, which i think down the line could be just as impressive. Aside from Kenan, who is in his final season, they are all having post show success.

As young/weak as the current cast is I think Cecily Strong and especially kate mckinnon could be special.

i was watching a patrick swayze hosted episode from 1990. between swayze, farley, hooks, and hartman there was an average of 2 dead people per sketch

also how surprising was it that colin quinn seems to have aged the best from the 90s Weekend Update hosts. God Norm looked awful

I for one think Cecily is great and I think by now McKinnon has proved her worth already but I got to say i think SNL does not seem to like Cecily or treat her well. She did Weekend UPdate for an entire season and didn't get even a sliver of time in the WU montage while Michael Che and Jost did. She deserves a lot more and I think she should move on to something that will treat her right.

All of McKinnon's characters crack me the fuck up. Sometimes all I need is to see her face and I start bustin up. The russian lady... lmao.

SNL has a ton of haters and it's sometimes tough to watch in-transition phases like right now but I still watch every week. There is almost always at least one good sketch and I like watching new cast members develop.

I think one of the issues that the current cast has is that some of its "new veterans" honestly just have really weak personalities. Tarren Killam and Bobby Moynahan have no oomph to their performances. The current men on the cast are mostly honestly pretty bad

EDIT: also thank you tyven, I also find the Californians funny and no one else on the internet apparently does. I love how ppl act like the jokes these days are so stupid when we all forget how basic and dumb some of the flagship sketches of our memories' "golden years" were. uhhhwhat are yeww doin here?

    I love Bobby

Also, another female that didn't seem to get treated well: Abby Elliot I loved her.

Hey, don't get me wrong, Bobby and Tarren are good at what they do, and they make me laugh. But they're not leaders, and neither is particularly diverse.

I think Cecily stopped doing Update because they wanted her as a character on Update -- like the girl you wish you didn't start a conversation with at a party and the one-dimensional girl (which is always amazing). If you've seen any interviews post update, she even says she's more comfortable doing the characters. That said, as much as I liked Che on The Daily Show, he's awful on update.

Also, fuck you Tyven! I did not need to know Kenan was in his last season

Agreed on Cecily, can't believe they skipped her in the montage and went straight to Jost and Che. Che had all this hype coming into the season and he stumbles on half his lines. I still think its great they got a person of color doing weekend update but they should have prob just put Jost back in the writers room and kept Cecily with Che.

I think Taran and Bobby are good and of course kenan is legendary. Pete Davidson is only like 20 and has a ton of hype behind him so I think even tho a lot of stuff can be hit or miss with the current cast, they will only get better. The infomercial pornstar sketch is like top 5 all time for me.

Well last i saw Lorne was going to try to keep him on since the rest of the cast is so young. But he's been at it for over a decade now and apparently wants to move to the west coast or some shit. I really hope he comes back.

It seems like they have been trying to phase him out, some episdoes he is hardly in anymore. On the one hand he was an enormous crutch for them recently, but on the other hand... he's funny, so it's hard to abide by.

Pete Davidson has a ton of confidence out there, and I think once he gets past playing the "young guy" shtick, he could be something great.

I also happen to love the long haired dude's really absurd late-night sketches, like the one with the chicken wing, or the one with the bad influence friends, that are parodies of 90s educational videos... those are brilliant.

YES Kyle Mooney. I used to watch his youtube videos before he was on the show. He randomly pops up in a ton of stuff too, like Taco Bell commercials, and Sprint commercials with the talking fish, it is so random.

I was so hyped that Eddie Murphy was coming back but his spot was tiny. He basically said thanks and left. Super disappointed in that.

SNL had a very rough patch from around '98-'04 where the only people of consequence where Will Ferrell, Chris Kattan, and Darrell Hammond as Bill Clinton. Around 2003-2004 is when we saw the emergence of Tracy Morgan, Jimmy Fallon, Horatio Sanz, Tina Fey, etc. Honestly the show has been very funny consistently since around 2004 in my opinion.

Man. That would have been the most amazing after party.

Sounds like it would've been more fun to watch than the special. D:
