For people here who do end user support what does your IT department do for VP's and CEO's? The CEO of the company I work for always seems to have tech related issues and lets them build up forever then comes into our office asking us to fix them in the 5 minute window between meetings. How do other people handle fixing tech issues for very busy individuals?

I always made them leave me their shit... either during lunch, or a meeting they don't need it, or even overnight. I got tired of getting rushed by a damn CFO when he'd throw his shit on my desk when he would take a smoke break and need it back right after.

We use roaming profiles (Inhouse system) so all devices are interchangeable. With this in mind, we just have temp laptops/computers we can give people or change out while we deal with their normal PC's. They don't have to wait to use their device, and we are not rushed/bitched at by the big dogs.

This is what I want to set up. We don't have the resources to do this for everyone but for our CEO I want to have two laptops available so that we can work on one while the CEO uses the other. That brings up the issue of important files and shit though.

Thanks everyone your suggestions really help with this issue.

My CEO is mostly rational, so while he expects me to drop everything when he's on the premises, he usually warns me in advance. We keep a spare laptop for emergencies, and keep a standard phone as a backup, if multiples broke down at once, we'd have a problem though.
And late hours.. lots and lots of late hours..

This is a great idea. I was thinking about a system like this but we have a unique difficulty in that we have two offices separated by really bad internet connected by vpn tunnel. Too much unnecessary network traffic between the two offices would slow down our network connection and impact business. It is hard to explain but the CEO moves around a lot and works on our main property and our secondary property and from home a lot.

Then folder redirection with offline sync might be an option. When set up properly it should sync the offline cache when in the office with the server(s), and when it detects the slow connection from the other office the user just works with the cached local copies. The only risk would be that a user can lose changes that were made to the cache before they get synced back to the server.

Also the sync would just be long for he first login unless they have millions of mb of change each time

Yesterday 2:57pm the work network went down instantly. Got around 60 calls saying "Did you know the internet is not working?". Favorite was , "I know the internet is out, but the emails will not send."

This can be solved if you are using folder redirection. Just setup a server at each location, use DFS for the folder redirection directories and create namespaces for the drive maps. No matter which location you are at, you are using the closes server for your data, you can throttle the dfs connection during production and uncap during the night to make sure all data between the sites are 100%.

So today was my last day as the network admin at my current (well, now previous) employer. They brought in an IT consultant to help them with changing the necessary passwords, since I was a one-man operation. Around 4:00 this afternoon, they changed the domain admin password and all hell broke loose. I offered to stay and help them resolve it but my boss just told me to leave. What's better is, I went to a bar after work with a bunch of my former co-workers to celebrate, and while we were there, one of them got a text from their department manager that water was "flooding" into the building (it's raining like a mother fucker here this week) and coming out of A/C vents in the ceiling, about 15 feet away from the data room.

How appropriate that Mother Nature would opt to drown their servers not even hours after the conclusion of my last day...

I was told to "test" the offshore team and not offer any assistance.

It's so far taken 4 weeks to generate a CSR (required for SSL certificates for websites) for 3 of my servers in IIS 8.5, after numerous e-mails bouncing back and forth about 7 different people.

I think it's easier to just let me absorb 7 offshore salaries for myself...

So despite telling a specific staff that works offsite to not drop in on me without calling me first, I had someone drop in. Not only did she drop in, her laptop battery was dead so I had to wait for her to go find it. The reason for her drop in was due to her not knowing how to install the cisco ready connect vpn software that I actually did a presentation on for over a month ago. Not only that, her mobile pass vpn token was installed on her laptop, despite me specifically telling them several times to install it on your iphone/android phone, not the laptop. Then the kicker, oh i forgot the pin to that software.

Got a call from a friend asking me to look at some network issues. All the users seem to take forever to load roaming profiles, even with small profiles. Bring up documents takes forever, etc, etc. Turns how they configured the wrong subnets in Sites and services to the wrong location. Nothing like everyone getting their documents from the furthest location possible...... at all 4 sites...... Based on the look of their IT director, someone is getting fired today..... (Not my friend, he was the DB admin)

A rodent chewed through ATT's main fiber line into the area where I live. 2 days no phone, no internet, no cell reception for the entire area. Approximately 1,500 residents and 50-60ish businesses effected. It really sucks that ATT has no redundancy in their infrastructure in our area.

That's typical AT&T. A couple of years ago, California flipped it's shit when it actually got some rain, and a room AT&T used in a court house for all the phone lines partially flooded and fucked up phones not just for the court house for 48 hours, but for other unrelated businesses as well. I have no clue why that fucked up the rest of the block when it was isolated to a single room...
