Yeah ATT is a shit company and it is sad that they own all the infrastructure that the other companies use. I live in a pretty remote area but my manager is working on a deal to have a different company set up wireless towers to bring cheaper high speed across the mountains to our area so we can get off ATT.

Most telecoms used (think 80s-90s) govt. owned buildings in "downtown" urban areas as demarcation points for large trunk lines from which they then split off smaller T3 and T1 lines.

I can confirm this, as our B2 floor is nothing but Dmarcs and wire for most of the downtown area. I have no idea how they fix anything, as nothing is marked for shit. Our building doesn't even use those types of lines anymore, but i see an ATT truck outside almost every day.

My account was locked out this morning. Had to have another admin unlock me. I changed my password a few days ago, so i figured i had something open, or a backup job under my name... something. Turns out my bad habit of RDPing and not logging off came to bite me in the ass. Last few hours i've been watching logs to find out which servers (Out of hundreds) i was still logged into. They kept trying to reconnect to network drives, which was locking me out of the system. I've just logged out of #31.... the bad passwords have stopped.... for now....

LOL, that happens all the time here. 90 day password resets, but we have users who have laptops out on the field with no network connectivity until they log in, so relying on cached credentials, and they forget which password is current and lock their shit out.

Also I'm notorious from VPNingin into my network from home, doing what I need to do, and forget to disconnect before playing Diablo. Must be confusing the shit out of the county it staff.

Got approved for unlimited overtime today, probably for the duration of the 4th quarter (work in an Amazon Data Center). The fail? They tell me at 3PM on my day off...so I missed overtime for today

A level 4 tech in my corporation pulled 3 hard drives out of a RAID 5 configuration because IBM told him to over the phone. That went over well with lmao.

I'm going to destroy 4,000 hard drives at work this week.

The fail isn't destroying the hard drives, it is the mindless nature of having to do so many drive replacements in such a short period of time.

Does anyone here have any experience with g-tech raid arrays? I am looking to add additional backup capacity in my server room and I am deciding what to do. The standalone raid arrays take up a lot of space and are awkward but we also have a very small server room with limited rack space so I am not sure if I should go with a rack mountable raid array.

Another AT&T network failure. Down to 2/12 T1 lines currently at work.

and they forget which password is current and lock their shit out.
I can't put into words how much I hate doing this, if only because it's always due to near-retarded password requirements.

I have one account somewhere where I've locked myself out at least 80% of time instead of logging in. Half because the password requires caps, lowercase, numbers, AND a special character that MUST be one of the 8 or so special characters they decided are okay, so I never remember it properly. And then half because when you get locked out you need to change your password to something new, which can't be any of your old passwords.

Also their login site is glitchy: if you put in the incorrect password every subsequent attempt will fail unless you go back to the original login page. It took me a few lock outs to realize that problem on their side. I kept thinking I had completely forgotten the password every time, but no it was just that I put it in on the second or third try and it didn't work because bad programming.

I think it's easier to just let me absorb 7 offshore salaries for myself...
I thought this was to be done 16th Oct, but due to an apocalyptic issue that happened in the entire environment, the team responsible for installing my SSL certificate has said they were too busy on that day to do it (in reality, they open IIS, open the certificates manager thing, change the path of the certificate to the new one they put wherever in the server). 1 minute job tops.

And I can't even get that 1 minute off them. They were gonna do it 23rd Oct, but they didn't resubmit it for approval (strict procedures here).

Is it that hard to multitask? Or spare 1 minute doing it? It's really, really, not hard. It also doesn't impact anything (which was storage related).

To install this certificate, all they need to do is login to server (10 seconds)
    Launch IIS
    Launch the certificate manager
    download new certificate
change path of existing certificate to new certificate
    ok/apply/save

    1 or 2 minute tops?

Asked for a typo to be fixed for many years from "Abobe Forms" to "Adobe Forms" in our ticketing system. Because the system is used globally changes are not easy to make no matter how simple.

I've learned to ignore it over time but it still annoys me, since the quickest way to select that category is to type it in the box rather than go through 5 menus.

This morning I noticed it got changed.

    It's now Abobe Formse

    For fucks sake lol

Quick story from my IT friend.

Receives ticket to do a password retrieval for a client's employee.

Employee's ID is not in the system.

Employee has been working at client for 6 years and has been hopping on computers that have been logged on and this was the first instance that she tried to login with what she thought was her account.

I have no clue on what company. My friend works at a small company that provides IT services to a bunch of other small and medium companies. I was in absolute shock and laughing hysterically when he told this story on Mumble.

His predecessor (and also a close friend) have a fail board for outrageous crap like this.

Colleague has to endure this horror story:
Company calls, not one of our customers, but they apparently got our number from someone else we work with. It's their "IT guy", he wants to add another server to their domain and make it a second DC.
Colleague tries to add server to domain (all input came from "IT guy"), it works, but login with the AD Admin fails (wrong password). They overwrite the current Admin PW, create a second admin, but login always fails.
All this was already way over our normal office time, I leave. The next day my colleague tells me what was actually the problem (that took several hours to be found)...
"IT guy" already installed the AD management role on the new server before adding it to the existing domain. Their existing domain was called abc-something.local, but "IT guy" thought it was abc.local and somehow managed to create it on the new server without it being a DC. So he and my collegue constantly added the new server to the abc.local domain (which magically worked) but tried to use credentials that only existed in abc-something.local...

I really wonder how "IT guy" managed to keep the network running before this...
