Yeah it's a thing over at /r/Amd right now because of Ryzen and I'm sure it's on Intel's as well. Really sucks when the big company forces the consumer to do things against their will. My wife's pc is a Haswell (LGA 1150) socket running W7 Ultimate and she's fine with it. If it ain't broke, why fix it?
Yup, new processors don't (officially) support the older OS. Supposed to be possible to get at least Ryzen to run on Win 7, but I haven't looked much into it.
Somehow a word doc, 6 pages, 7gb, was sent to the print queue.
It screwed printing/scanning for a while as a couple of guys were figuring what was wrong (ran out of disk space on print queue server).
I'm desperately trying to find out who and what the contents of this doc was, but they won't tell me![]()
7GB? oO That must have been one hell of a document...
I only know that one of our customers had the issue that every time someone printed a PDF with 50+ pages (happened quite a lot since they got price listings etc that apparently had to be kept in paper form) on one of their Kyocera printers, the PCL driver blew the print up to several 100MB of size which clogged the printer (queue) for at least half an hour... Thanks to that we had to switch a few folks to the PS driver since it produced a lot smaller print orders.
Speaking of printers, our onsite IT staff is so understaffed, management in their infinite wisdom are no longer responding to tickets to change printer toner. There's a cache of toner somewhere in the workplace and it's up to normal employees to change out toner.
I see a disaster of broken printers or misused toner cartridges coming not too far in the future.
I kinda support your IT in this (assuming the understaffing is general managements fault and not IT themselves), changing toners on most modern machines is quite easy, modern MFPs even give you an on screen explanation, and you'll be hard pressed to do it wrong unless you're borderline amish. I have people who think changing their password in Windows is hard and have a difficult time turning their computers off, they still manage to change the toner cartridge (or find someone who can). They need to make "superusers" at each locations who get 5 min with IT showing them how and get it out of the way.
(I'd say something about management, but there's no point, it's like that all over as far as I know. I'm currently the sole tech in a company with 200+ clients, 20 servers and around 30 printers, if your people can't change their toners on their own, they're even worse than my people, and that's pretty bad...)
Printers are Satan's work.
I understand why they wanna do this
but managing Outlook signatures for all users is a pain.
Had an offsite employee call me on friday because he dropped his hearing aid on the laptop keyboard, then closed the lid...cracking the screen. Took me a minute to figure out how to even respond
Nothing like getting credit for fixing something you didn't fix.
Sitting in a meeting when you director assumes correlation and causation, "Ever since site XXX was changed over to the new hardware, we have seen a 43% decrease in tickets for that site."
I'm sitting there racking my brain trying to figure out what I did, or what anyone did that would cause that, but couldn't think of anything. Went back into the ticket system to look at what type of tickets stopped coming in and saw they were all the "User error" tickets.
Turns out, a certain user retired at that site around the same time our upgrades were done. I don't handle these types of tickets, and called up the local IT guy there to ask about this user and I could hear the smile on his face through the phone as he told me about the shit this user used to put in tickets for..... one of those, how can you still be alive being this dumb, type of person.
So I hate the IT that was before me at this job
These guys, had 1 VM for SAP, with lots of adds ons and SQL server.
After a while they decided to split into 2 VM (1 for SAP and add ons, 1 for SQL).
Last week I installed a new PC with SAP and been wondering for almost 1 week why some reports are not working on that PC but on all other PC runs the same reports OK.
The issue that i learned this morning, is that the reports in SAP were all programmed with the old server DNS name in it. And the old IT (YES HE DID THAT) Configured all the PC hosts files. with the old SAP server hostname that points to the new server IP.
Told my boss that it's fucking stupid and i could just add a DNS entry that use the old servername and point it to the new server IP (There's too many reports and it would take years to change all those reports).
Boss told me, if it was this simple, the old IT would've done it.
Well it was this simple. FFS, why the fuck did he played in the host files
So my boss had an interesting idea: We currently work as Support admins for about 35 restaurants.
We are a 3 person team and we mainly work through a ticketing system set up on zoho.com's remote support to help managers with tech / printer issues. My boss wants to expand this system to help the stores with R&M / Marketing / Guest complaints etc. We would then manage the ticketing system for our entire corporate office who currently only uses email to support the stores. So for example, if manager at 1 store has an issue with a sink, he has to know who to email at corporate to help them with the issue. The problem we have now is that none of the managers know who to call, so they just either call IT and we route them, or they don't call at all. We want to send all of these types of messages to one place, so that we can easily manage them and direct the issue to the person who can help.
We've been having some issues with the Zoho client, and I'm wondering if any of you guys have used a ticketing system or a similar software package that helps you help your clientele? And if so, which is your favorite?
This company is even worse then me.
No inventory nothing, they keep adding new job while i can't fix old shit that doesn't work. Now I'm trying to make their PC inventory but the issue is this. I have like 20 Offices licences but no names, the one with names are names of people that does'T work here anymore, and they have no idea where their PC is anymore.
So what i need from BG this time is either a Powershell script or a free software that will let me find the product key of these software
Office 2007 to 2016
Windows 7, 10 and 2008 R2.
I have a power shell that seems to work for W7, and 2008R2 but nothing for Office 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016.
If i can find that then i'll try to run it on PCs and find corresponding licences with what I have
Thanks
Try lansweeper. www.lansweeper.com It might be a bit clunky to get going, but once you have it going you can pretty much get any information you need.
Spiceworks? It can inventory pretty much anything, hardware, software (licenses), you name it.
I just vaguely remember that license key extraction for some office versions was a bit tricky since MS had the great idea of storing it encrypted. At least some tools (like jellybean key finder before it got turned into crap/adware) tripped on that and couldn't retrieve the key.
Arugh barf Spiceworks, literally the most dog shit ticketing system I've used.
Connectwise is what we use. Can keep track of multiple clients. Create configs for any of their hardware and attach those said configs to tickets. That way you run reports on what's going on ticket wise (like who opens the most tickets or what device is creating the most tickets). Accessible via web, or direct Connectwise client, or mobile app for your techs who are often on the road. Has time entry and all that stuff as well. If you do any professional services work, it has project management features.
