Start my work PC today and as soon as I login my CPU is at 100%. Took almost twenty minutes for me to restart my PC today. Intel I5-4300, 8GB ram, Intel 240GB Pro 1500 SSD. Also, we get less than 10 mbps down.

I was genuinely interested to see how long it was going to take.

I hate our ticketing system. It's been 2 weeks since I submitted a ticket and not a peep. But it's sad that I should just sit on this because our division has about 1 IT tech per 125 employees. Maybe it would shrink down to 1 in 75 if I add the sys admins but I'm sure they don't process tickets. Oh well, I can't wait til I get locked out of my write permissions on an important excel doc because someone saves it on Office 2016 and I'm still stuck with Office 2010.

Worse thing is that this is a medium priority ticket since it can affect a workgroup. Medium priority my ass, it's still moving at the speed of NOPE.

Welcome to my world. I support about 125 people approximately, about 30 of which who don't work at my building. Last week I got lambasted for not getting 14 laptops unboxed, fully configured with all windows updates, on domain, all software installed, and deployed since the network at this site was such ass, running updates on more than 3 at a time brought the entire network down.

Ah, but if you spend too much time at work, they complain about your excessive hours. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I remember when i worked for a company that had a shit network, and wouldn't give any money to upgrade. I endded up just creating a deployment "Server" using an old laptop. Grabbed a few cheap dumb switches, and you now have a mobile deployment system that is only limited by how many switches you have. I think i bought about 5, 10/15 dollars switches, went from taking weeks to do 100+ computers, to hours.

You guys are lucky to have or be IT folks... I've been filling in for our ONE position that's been open since February. (We have about 120 employees but do get some support on a couple systems from the outside). That's in addition to my regular job.

Also we don't use a ticketing system even though one exists. People just email. Sometimes people text me directly. UGH.

Yah the direct to text help me model was my old job. Terribad. One of 900 reasons I love working for Amazon. Technology problems here are almost always user fault.

And here I'm working for an 11 figure company who still uses an interface that looks like DOS and almost anything web interfaced fails 9 out of 10 times.

When I left Fry's in 2009, our POS was still running in DOS. To keep people from trying to access the internet all the computers had a novell shell that overlayed windows and blocked you from doing anything, and would fire up a dos emulator for the PoS system. They eventually replaced it with a horrible web based system. Both of them were designed in house cause they were too cheap to buy an established one.

And all this is why I don't pester our IT guys because I already know they are flooded with a lot of stupid tickets. I have heard horror stories from my friend @ the Library of Congress; people who don't know how to put in a password and getting locked out multiple times in a single day.

Company has a "joint" google account that is used on cellphones that are work only, so that users can install apps etc. without having to create individial google accounts, or use their private ones.
User somehow confuses the joint google account _ON HER WORK PHONE_ with a private google account, resets the password and backup info, locking all the other company phones out.
Google doesn't enjoy reusing old passwords.. so FML.

You're at a school right? I think I recall you saying. That's slightly not surprising (the sharing of accounts).

Our official company policy is the 10 most recent passwords cannot be reused. I'm on 15 or 16 and still can't go back to the first one.

I use a base 8 character password followed by an alternating 6 character password (so I only need to remember the new 6 character password).

I know active directory is 10? passwords. I've definitely come full circle and more for my Windows here.

Not technically a school, but close enough for all practical purposes to compare. And it's a serious pain, but the bosses are too cheap, and don't really care about anything as long as it doesn't affect their creature comforts.
my quick google fu suggested that google accounts have some nutty high limit, 100 uses+ or something, which, granted, would be a lot quicker than resetting the unknown number of phones with that password.
