This turns into a major pita when the people registered as responsible with that pr company often don't even work there anymore and I only find out when accounting isn't sure where an invoice is supposed to go and "it looked tech'y" so they just sent it to me because they can't be arsed to figure it out.

Every now and then the tlds require signatures etc. motherf... I am tired of explaining to the CEO/VPs why I need them to sign the x'th domain transfer document.

I recently cancelled a set of phone lines. I got the invoice with a "what's this really?" from accounting, I didn't have any clue, so I googled it. Turns out we had facilities at a building like 5 years before I even began working for the company. So We'd been paying for at least 15 years for phone lines on a site we werent' even at. fml.
I'm pushing to hire at least one (hopefully two) proper IT people in the next 3 months. I can hold things together but we're going to start growing rather quickly personnel-wise and I'm not qualified or at all inclined to run our fucking IT.

Getting the obvious pushback from our CFO who is a great CFO and a terrible everything else "Just make sure everything works, it's not that fucking hard."

    Fam. Please.

Just make sure you know enough to sort out the right IT people. I remember my current boss telling me I interviewed really well, and they liked me, but two others who did amazing and talked a great game....... Then they were given a hand-on tech project to do... which was pretty fucking easy really that was just checking the basics of what was requested on the job posting. They were given an hour to complete the project, both shit the bed and got about halfway through the project. I had it done in about 10 mins.

Later i looked at their resume (We had other job postings and they re-applied for those (HA)), and the lies on those motherfuckers were amazing. If they were half of what they said they were, i wouldn't have my current job.

I hate compliance sometimes. I know we need them to cover our asses but at the same time being hung up on a project because you're waiting for verbiage changes sucks

Supervisor has been hounding the agency to finish their required HIPPA online training, which seriously only took about 30-45 minutes and basically clicking through an interactive powerpoint. Drop dead date to finish was yesterday, so of course today he's getting calls from a ton of people saying they don't have the training available on their interactive dashboards.

It looks like computers using Avast and updating to 1803 are crashing in an unrecoverable way. It's been strongly suggested to uninstall Avast or make absolutely sure the computer can't update to avoid the issue until more details are known.

Stuck in a quagmire of hell trying to pass PCI compliance scans so my work can use a new POS system. WTF at the scan company who is inconsistent with their rules and doesn't understand how basic networking and VPN tunnels work.

We passed one week then failed the very next week and they couldn't articulate why in any detail.

Edit: If anyone has any tips or tricks on how to deal with this please I am all ears. Running sonicwalls that are a bit on the older side but should be perfectly capable of meeting all the requirements.

Sorry to derail, but I might have to go through that soon too

Do you have a place where i can test my network for PCI compliance? or i'm stuck with their 80 page document?

That is a good question I have no idea. My management decided to purchase the new POS system without talking to IT, install it, then tell us to fix it/make it work once we were in the thick of the PCI compliance testing.

Right now I am fighting with them over our VPN SSL tunnel for remote workers and the renegotiation. It is causing us to fail the pci compliance as a vulnerability but I don't think they understand how VPN works. Not to mention the fact that there are several layers of authentication required after the initial connection is established before you can get past the firewall.

So I just came across a set of database tables where the ID column uses a not null constraint instead of a primary key constraint. What the actual fuck...

Also on an unrelated note, anyone here know any methods to prevent external sites from framing your site on theirs unless it's on a whitelist?

Ok weird issue here. I have a windows VM running on an OS X machine. I also have an internal mail server running in OS X 10.9.5. End users have the ability to send emails out from inside the Windows VM (running windows server 2008). Randomly recently network communication between the windows VM and the mail server have shut down. They cannot communicate with each other. All other iterations of communication still work. Host computer to mail, mail to host, etc.

    What gives?

So I think it was a routing table error. Simply moving the host machine from one switch port to another fixed it. Weird issue.
