Makes me sad that I never got to experience old dynamis. Met some people in a merit party who invited me to try it out the next day with their ls. Was luckily off of work, logged in outside of my normal hours, but they never got enough people together at once to start the run.
Tfw you have that one fucking guy in the ls that may be braindamaged but you love him anyway. He auto runs while afk, next thing you know you are fighting all of dyna-beauc at once.
Also slimes, sometimes you are just tired and ain't on the ball with these little dynamis fuckslimes and they spam their stupid paralyga and yagrush don't exist yet. Dyna-windy crows fuck you too, I bought enough echo drops I ain't playin this silence shit.
The nostalgic excitement/dread of Dynamis pulls, aggros, and untimely 2hrs almost makes-up for the shitty drop rates. Even after doing dozens of runs, you still have moments where you get anxious; always a chance some random shit could happen and a pile of bodies to remind you that you ain't shit lol
It was certainly a bit more entertaining to do them with an entire LS, rather than one or two partners, let alone solo. One thing I didn't get to experience much of was Sea and Limbo, even though I got access before nerfs. I loved that sweet BGM and the acid trip there. FFXI zones are so memorable, fuck this thread lol
Sea was my jam, limbus was really boring for me barring the 3 kings path and ultima.
But yea... wasn't max dynamis time like 3.5hrs? and then getting nothing but blm af2 feet for it or your 30th piece of drg af2 falling to the ground.
Spoiler: show
Yeah, 3ish hours with all times and boss, I think.
I think Xarca had the longest play time though.
Wall of Death pull was so much fun back in the day,(right before the Apocalyptic Dragons.)
Spawn delay would make or break the pull, haha.
Ages ago a BLM friend of mine(Terrastorm, miss that guy) got sick of stoneskin/blink not doing shit for statues. So he started subbing NIN.
He died so much less, it was awesome as hell.
I think it was my second Dynamis LS that decided to do Uragnites in Dyna-Bubu one time, ofc I was on WHM and I wanted to rip my hair out. That poison is brutal. It was fun, but they were like "next time we'll just have the DDs bring antidotes" hahahahahahahha okay speaking as a mage who has been asked at least 40000000 times to sneak/invis someone through a zone because they couldn't bother to bring pots, speaking as a mage who has had to Silena people 4000000 times after being silenced by fucking Imps in Caedarva Mire because DDs don't carry echo drops, hell, speaking as a mage who actually got asked once if i had any shihei ... by the tank... you really think you can convince DDs to bring fucking antidotes and use them? HAHAHAHA no, I knew that wasn't going to work.
Good times, but yeah. I knew better than to think that most people in your typical Dynamis LS were going to bring antidotes. People were exceptionally cheap/lazy sometimes.
I also really loved sea, but a lot of people thought I was weird for that.
I hated sky. Hated. Running through to Byakko and the terrible Despot pop rates, fucking terrible drop rates on everything up there, and Sky access is like the first access everyone gets, so it's just a zone full of freaking noobs, all the time. Doing sky lowman with my HNMLS was fun, doing Sky with a disorganized newbie(ish) sky shell was not. lol.
SE corner temperance, nevar 4get
I also loved sea, but MAN OH MAN WHEN SOMEONE IN MY SHELL GOT LOST RUNNING SOMEWHERE I WOULD LOSE MY SHIT
Idk abjurations, weapons, and armor are all a fine rate with seals for Kirin being 100% too. It was only pop items with a single digit%, and really they were not so bad. Did you need a THF? Well, yeah, and did things get shitty sometimes taking hours for a Dio or a Water? Yeah, but those bottlenecks were the minor barriers to entry really. Then you'd also have those bullshit moment where you get multiple random drops of those same items that you couldn't get for hours last time. The only bad part was something like the long respawn on getting Gem of the North or the pot. Fuck that shit!
One of the best things they ever did was cut an hour off of Dynamis, but then with the proc system it has been an annoyance ever since.
the single biggest factor in my becoming melee lead in my dynamis shell was because i always put in the effort to bring the items needed, and always paid attention to pulls and stood where i was supposed to. so people would use me as a landmark. don't know where youre supposed to be? find bane! dont know what youre supposed to kill? kill what bane's killing! eventually made a set of obscene macros to explain kill priorities and translate mob name to job. then every pull it was "MELEE TO ME OR ILL FUCK YOU IN THE FACE" etc. i backed it up by killing people who got charmed if they werent doing what they were supposed to. or if they happened to be a buddy. killed my LS leader a few times, that was fun. he got me a couple times, too.
man did i loathe it when people didnt come prepared. especially in sky. we once had a byakko run completely fail because some red mage thought they could sneak/invis their way past weapons. they aggrod... didn't put up reraise... the people raising them aggrod... etc etc in a chain until everyone was dead but a small group of us who stood our ground, cleared a spot, and used our fucking oils. by then it'd been like an hour or two, so people went to bed etc. after that we started requiring mages to bring oils too. none of them ever did, though. so we just left them there if they got killed; wouldnt let anyone try to raise them.
I used to love "chasing" the airships as they flew above the different zones. I always loved that they actually existed instead of just being teleport cutscenes
Yeah we used to make people HP if they fucking died on the way to Byakko. Always had at least one person. Every time. "But I don't have a buffer." Oh well, should have thought about that before you forgot oils and powers. If you can't afford them, then go farm.
I really don't understand what SE hoped to accomplish by making Byakko so annoying to get to. Same with the pots/Kirin porter. That wasn't fun, it was just annoying.
Running to get airship
It takes off right before you walk onto it
rage tele and hoof it
Chocobo?
Sometimes the things that make it all memorable and worthwhile are the things that are simply different. I imagine it was designed against those who sought to spam the content. So that they did not complete it as quickly. Those early timesinks we had up until Abyssea, and really recently with the JP midnight eliminations. Now that people have to wait less and get anywhere instantly with HPs they just complain there is nothing to do
He really was less annoying to get to than other things in the game. All you had to do assuming the door was already open. Was run a straight easy shot through a zone from the island you walked to on the way there anyway. Then you could just tractor the lazy people through.
The pinnacle in Ule might take hours just to let you walk inside, and then there's that mountain slide. Quest just to get past the door in SSG sucked. Weighted doors in Quicksand, the doors in Garliage, and Mage Gate in the Ruins. Waiting for the rock to go down to unlock a coffer in Kuftal, and not having ice clusters for Ifrits Cauldron. These things all took the same time or more really.
Assist macros mofos!
My first Dynamis run, no one told me what I was supposed to be doing. I was on RDM, so I was like ... enfeeble? Sleep? Nuke? (lol no) Heal? I had no idea. I kind of wandered around behind people aimlessly, and I set the assist macro and I was like ... okay well I know I'm not supposed to be meleeing. I was so confused for like 30 minutes about what was going on. I never sought to join a Dynamis LS either, I just had a friend one day ask, "Hey, wanna do Dynamis?" and next thing I knew I was pearled and entering the zone with a bunch of other people I'd never met trying to figure out what the fuck was going on. God being a noob was so fun sometimes.
weighted doors never stopped me
