Nice. Sadly we'll never see this again though:
Is that a playstation thing? I've never seen that before, but I've been master race/360 my entire ffxi career.
It was the original opening PlayOnline screen for PC at least. I started playing 10/29/2003 (one day after NA release) and I remember that screen vividly because the music was so unexpected for SE (to me at least). It changed at some point fairly early on though, so if you came to the game later, you may not have seen it.
And one of my old XI friends posted this on Facebook yesterday; apparently ~5 of my best XI friends decided to hop back in to the game.

I believe the game is finished next week? So besides bug fixes and minor class balances, that's it.
Then in March 2016 or something PS2 and Xbox360 will sink.
rank 5 what are they doing fucking scrubs
also you could disable that screen. i dont remember how but that was one of the first things i did lol
November 13th-November 24th is free login campaign. Come back and finish off the FFXI story for free if ya want, ya filthy animals.
You got a good chunk of gil for it, that was my motivation to do it on all three cities. I hated farming lol.
I loved the Windy storyline so I got rank 10![]()
and who doesn't want that shiny "10" next to your name
windy was the only rank 10 i never got. by the time i got around to it, most people i knew had quit already, so it was difficult to find people who wanted to do it. i got up to rank 9 i think.
I was one of the first NA Ifrit's Cauldron miners and from 2003 to like 2006ish I had to be one of the top miners in terms of time spent out there. Never really had gil issues after that; by 2007, I was in/running an endgame guild that sold everything (15M gil for lolMBody? sure) and split the cash which funded me to the end. A lucky speed belt dorp in KS99 helped.
WoTG is a cakewalk with any ilvl gear, plus can use Trusts to heal/buff if you feel you need them.![]()
SoA you might need some help with a couple of fights, but it really wasn't too terrible. Plus you can get a KI from doing Rhapsodies missions that lets you skip an annoying part of it. (vs Teodor with his mini-game.)
SoA entire mission log is like...maybe 8 or 9 fights at most? The rest is all running around and cutscenes, lots of cutscenes. If you've never done any SoA content though you might get cockblocked by needing pioneering key items and the one imprimantur requirement.
If you have 119 gear and trusts SoA can be soloed. Granted I'd you returning you will have problems on maybe two fights. Final one being one and the umbral one. Outside that nothing comes to mind that would not be easy to do with trusts.
I learnt English, German, a bit of spanish & met my g/f on this game, I moved from France to UK for her. While I sometime feel like I definately could have done something better with my time, I wouldn't have became fluent in 3 foreign langages and I wouldn't have been with the amazing lady for 8 years.
I play XIV now but the two game are completely different, the mentality of the playerbase which is one of the very essence of a MMO is just shitty. In XI you would take the time to establish a good bridge between yourself and anyone you'd meet in a party, nowaday its just "rush rush rush!" and I don't even have time to say hello, things gotta be packed in 10 mins max! Then the person leave as fast as possible and good luck trying to make a solid friendship with them.
