We'll never be able to go back to when the game was brand new to us and experience it that way again.

I remember being a newb myself and I remember some of those feelings, but logging in and starting a toon in San d'Oria today would not feel the same way as it did in 2004, because I've done it before - several times, in fact. Not the same.
I started the game pre NA release, at the age of 13 and ended up lost in windy woods for over a day. Could not find my way out of the zone till some random Japanese guy who spoke some English pointed me in the right direction lol . my nobles tunic was crafted from a sky drop. Stuff like that won't happen if you restart

Oh god yes the zones. Only MMO I've played that came close to that adventurous feel is GW2.

It was always fun finding those hidden areas/amazing landscapes. I still remember that waterfall in that one area you access after completing the 3 promyvion zones.

Anyone have a link to the greatest quote that ever came out of the FFXI drama threads?

Did I fuck my bitch in the shower just a minute ago? Yea, it was clutch, and that bitch would never cheat on a greek god looking specimen like myself, I give it to her so good. Don't believe me? Ask your girlfriend. Know what I'm saying? Face, pussy.

You play that shit, imma be playing with my girls tits in the club.

Best part of Lufaise meadows was before access was common the ram camp was boss for exp. You needed a mage that was quick on the trigger to take the HP down move off though cause it would follow bleat with charge and kill the tank if you didn't.

Damn, completely forgot about that exp spot. Ram/Big Birds was pretty good EXP and Gil at first too, those mats were in demand for some reason, can't remember why

I remember that spot back when I experimented on STR/ACC for weaponskills on my PLD before windower had all the features and the WHM not too thrilled with me blinking like a christmas light.

I had people who told me I blinked too much, which was funny to me because I always played WHM, RDM, or BLM, and almost never needed heals so who the fuck was targeting me enough for it to matter?

I wish I could have got windower to work when I played. Not sure what happened but my framerate was so bad I could have sworn I was on a Windows 95 era machine when I ran it.

I am greatly spoiling and over simplifying things here but the gist of it is:
    Spoiler: show
In the future after you retire from adventuring, you and Tenzen become best buddies, you are training his teen/young adult daughter Iroha as your pupil, and the Emptiness comes back via plot shenanigans and basically takes over the world. You and Tenzen use Phoenix to send Iroha back in time to warn your younger (present day) self about whats happening and how to stop it. Unfortunately the Emptiness has also sent back a team of baddies to stop you. I'm skipping over a LOT of fluff here but suffice to say you go on a world tour and reunite with pretty much every major character through the history of the game before it comes to a crazy-even-for-Final-Fantasy final act where you become a god (two gods, actually), hop a few dimensions, kill a few bosses, and finally...FINALLY meet Altana face to face...when the game throws you a twist and you figure out that it WASN'T the Emptiness that destroyed the world after all but rather the interdimensional/multi-FF game appearing villain The Void and/or Cloud of Darkness who was pulling the strings. Vanadiel was kept safe because of its constant conflict but because you have kicked so much ass over the years killing bad guys, it swung too far into the light and it attracted the attention of the Void who wants to eat it up/destroy it. You get a scene with basically every avatar in the game in a LOTR style "And you have my axe!" moment where they give you their power (and yes, Phoenix finally appears as an avatar instead of a sword) and you go kill the last boss. Iroha disappears off to FF14, the song plays, long credits, game devs thank you in the credits for your years of playing, etc. And thats about it.

It was really amazing, and the final music in the BCNM with whats going on is really tear jerking. One thing about that snippet he posted:

    Spoiler: show
It wasn't the emptiness that sent back those people gathering darkness, but it was the players dark side when he became a god. It realized there needed to be darkness to equal the light to bring back balance so he was going around and collecting from all the sources of darkness.

I still hope at some point SE makes the game F2P now that it's "over", but I know that's wishful thinking since it's still a cash cow for them.

Sucks too. I really miss how awesome of an offense/support role Corsair was back when I played.

They could literally remake the entire game just updated graphics etc and I would pay to play it on current gem consoles or PC. Miss it so much sometimes.

I want to say Icarus Wings which could be made with Big Bird drops? Also Light Crystals which they dropped were a decent chunk of cash in early COP? Rams I think dropped some item for Aegis?

So you were the mage that caused my cursor to reset every time I tried to tab or scroll the pt list. Shame on you!
