Oddly I didn't see it will I was 75 when I was camping rams for BB items and got it instead. Still got rather spooked though and was sending out shouts for help. That was the day I learned to kite nms on rdm while people watched me getting in my way hoping I'd die lol
I don't recall any HNNs. I remember that NM worm you spawn with ore though.
"Hug the left wall until you get here"
I can't think of a game where that phrase has any use in 2016.
Oh god where was that used? That sounds very familiar.
everywhere, in some form. XI was somewhat difficult to navigate. Gave you a real sense of exploration.
Hug the left wall was how you found the ghouls in Gusgen Mines for the magic skull.
I also remember hugging a wall in Sea Serpent Grotto(?) to get to Norg
Left wall in Korroloka took you to the upper path which let you skip the slimes or something, I think.
SSG to Norg was the right wall
I can still mentally find my way thru Ifrit's Cauldron, because of how much time I spent there trying to get my DRG AF body way way way way back. At the time, I must have spent like 200k on Oils and Prisms because of current AH prices, just to get Drachen Mail. Good times.
The ??? at the 3 basic crags that can spawn a Goblin Archaeologist that can possibly wtf molest you.
Even if you might be doing well, Frag Bomb can still one shot you randomly lol
Yup I agree. I think this is because of the slow movement speed combined with the size of the map? FFXIV has never felt like this. Even in Heavensward once I got flying the size of the map feels much smaller, especially when I fly towards the area I want to go it did make me realise instantly how actually small the place was.
Movement speed was so treasured though to make my travel efficient. I treasured the days I spent with my WLegs and Strider Boots.
Sprinter's Shoes was also lovely at times where I can stack it with Wlegs/Striders.
Map still feels huge regardless of that though. Even a choco to Crawler's Nest seems to take 5 minutes.
I loved IC so much. I was one of the earliest Ifrit's Cauldron miners on Sylph back in early 2004; it was largely just me and a boss JP 75 NIN/WHM named Tomokage. Very few people knew how to get through Ifrit's Cauldron at that point in time. I would help at least one DRG/NIN/etc. per day with finding their AF coffer; both a blessing and a curse as some people were really grateful and reasonably well-prepared, while others were douchenozzles who expected me to Sneak/Invis them the entire way as a 20 WHM/NIN. I also think I ended up leading at least 40 different alliances through for the Zilart mission; first my LS, then friends of friends, then just random people from word of mouth. Fuck Tyrannic Tunnok btw; killed that thing at least 100x and never got a V Claw.
And the Ash Dragon was 1000000% not true sight. Argued with so many know-it-alls in ZM alliances who just refused to believe it for some odd reason.
One of my earliest, fondest memories of FFXI (aside from getting slowly killed by plaguebreath long after killing that freaking lizard) was being in an exp group of friends in Konschtat Highlands. Everything was going reasonably well until we encountered our first elemental. A mage aggroed it by casting magic and it was pretty clear we were going to die. Out of nowhere this level 60 Paladin comes to save the day in full AF armor. I was in total awe at the time.
One of my favorite moments of the game was when I was pretty much a huge noob, convincing like 12 other people to help camp Simurgh. We claimed it on the first time going out there, barely managed to kill it, got Strider boots on the first drop. Felt so fucking legit as THF after that. Was like lvl 65 or something. Amazing moment.
It still peeves me that I camped Simurgh for a few days, posting ToDs to LS forum, only to have a sub-clique from the shell camp against me. Was like, "Why the fuck do I even bother?" This nut seemingly had it in for me, though, and only seemed to evade punishment because he was buddy with a leader.
But the boots... were so good for the level. You were literally invincible with it, unless you're fighting tigers/raptors/anything that runs faster than 100%.
Although I heard base movement speed was bumped in one of the major QoL changes not too long ago... does that mean you run half-flee speed with 12%?
Also, with WLegs/Striders, laughing at peasants with the knock off 8% pants from the 3 mini expansions heeheehee...
I never got Herald's Gaiters though... I imagine the feeling would be the same. Just looked on the cost on Quetz... 3 on AH, 3mil.... seems like it's dropped from Ouryu now? Seems like Tiamat drops the Rare/Ex versions now.
If I reactivate I would totally buy that first thing; I think I have 30mil hanging around my main and mule combined.
edit: did they ever make an ilvl119/255 version of Twilight Mail and Helm? Would love something that grants auto reraise again... I did many stupid things with them with little worry about delevelling lol
