FFXI Nostalgia/Why did I ever stop playing!?/Let's all go back to 2009/Never forget Kujata Thread

One of my earliest, fondest memories of FFXI (aside from getting slowly killed by plaguebreath long after killing that freaking lizard) was being in an exp group of friends in Konschtat Highlands. Everything was going reasonably well until we encountered our first elemental. A mage aggroed it by casting magic and it was pretty clear we were going to die. Out of nowhere this level 60 Paladin comes to save the day in full AF armor. I was in total awe at the time.

Reminds me of getting the magicked skull for my subjob. I was hanging around the Dunes shouting for help with it and get a tell from some random guy who tells me to meet him at the entrance of Konstacht, he leads me to the Gusgen Mines and tells me to wait at the entrance. Before we arrive there though, I ask him what level/job he is, because he was on anon. He was like, "Check me" and I saw he was in full RDM AF (I didn't know that it was called AF at the time, but I was able to deduce that he was a RDM, obviously.) As I was maining RDM at the time, I was like "Oh shit yes."

He told me that we'd get the skull on his first run through the place and to lot it when it dropped. True to his word, the thing dropped and I lotted. I can't for the life of me remember that guy's name, but he made my early game experience.

I feel like maybe I was the only one in the world that knew about that Mhaura subjob quest. Found out about that baby from the PS2 beta test. Just had to get one of the JPs to help smack a Bogy and it was smooth sailing from there.
No waiting for hours for a skull to drop. Bloody Robes dropped all the damn time. After that, its all about farming dhalmels and rabbits. np.

I remember the Galka War/Nin that helped me do my sub job quest. Zron. WAR30/MNK4 aww yeah baby.

People kept telling me I was one level away from boost. I never knew what they meant.

Ninja AF+1 boots were so fucking good for getting around. Made FFXI feel like FFXIV does. Especially if you were /Thf for farming stuff.

I can't remember much about my SJs. I do remember my chocobo though. Night before a few friends and me made our first trip to Jeuno. Next day when I got home from school we got our gredns from the AH and just sat around talking and doing other stuff.

Lol 14 kills oh my goodness. You poor baby. Fuck you lol. I lived there for months.

All that was realistically said was they have plans to continue XI after April aside the Mobile client. As long as they can move development off of PS2 reliance I have more faith in that than XIV currently tbh.

Only thing I'd be curious about is how they'd make money off the game if it went F2P. GW2 route with cosmetic armor/weapons?

Anyway, I never did much NM hunting in my day since I was impatient as hell back then. Only NM I remember scoring off of solo was Pahh the Gullcaller and getting a lock of Siren Hair before SE removed the drops due to RMT.

I spent that 1+ million I earned leveling goldsmith... I was a dumbass...

I loved doing big events to get 1 person an item. From my early LS's camping Serket to make the LS ninja a Scorpion Harness, to having 18 people sitting at KV to get one person their Ace's Helm. After being in the same LS for a few years there was always an unspoken (or not) understanding of who kicked ass at what jobs and was to be geared up first, something I never really encountered in any game since.

Man, KV was such a ridiculous HNM. "Hey, its window is open? Well, I hope you like waiting ten hours for the next sandstorm!" First time I camped it, I watched like all of the extended LotRs to get the ToD, only to have competition show up and ended up not getting the helm before the ToD became unfeasible. Second time I camped it, think I did Star Wars. If I remember, it spawned right before we were about to start Dynamis or something. Also remember one guy in the LS getting upset that I was the only one who was allowed to lot it >.>;

Checking the weather reports for KV was some disheartening shit too. But you couldn't leave because there was no guarantee a sandstorm wouldn't happen even if the weather said sunny, sunny, sunny.

I camped KV once. For like a day. I caught wind that the window was open, had some time to kill.


Big-LS bots got it.

That's pretty much how my NM camping experience went. I got a few lesser NMs, like Mee Deggi the Punisher (okote, which never dropped), Joyeuse NM, and Roc/Sim, but anything major was not feasible w/o bots.
