You remember in Episode 3 of the Prequels where Obi-Wan and Anakin fight for so long in the final climax that the emotional stakes just kinda fade away and all you're left with is pretty vistas and wooshing noises, ultimately cheapening the payoff?
Anyway, while I do maintain what i said last weeks chapter, that this fight should have ended with that punch.. The chapter still has its charm, and its funny to watch Saitama punch away dimensional portals and walk all over Garou's techniques, but I can only see him "Get serious" so many times in one fight and land so many "Serious Series" moves and have it not end without feeling like its cheapening Saitama as a character.
And I understand this is a real "Catch 22" with the comic as a whole. Do we get to see Saitama use a bunch of cool moves in nice vistas and have some amazingly drawn fight scenes or do we follow the rules of the universe of Saitama just one-tapping every enemy when he gets real serious? I don't envy the author having to make these choices, and he's probably just having fun with the fight to the fullest since we're pretty close to catching up to the Web Comic (even if we have diverged from that pretty hard by now).
At least with Boros I can understand why the fight went on as long as it did, He never took Boros seriously at all, he never had any emotional investment into Boros, and when he did get serious, it took 1 hit and it was over. That fight looked amazing in Manga and in Anime, and for good reason, but it also kinda stuck to what I like about the series, and thats "Saitama is OPAF".
Oh well, I'm only a little disappointed but still enjoyed reading the chapter, and thats saying something... probably do in no small part to the amazing artwork. But boy howdy I hope its the last chapter dedicated to this fight. I want a satisfying ending BEFORE it becomes like the Episode 3 analogy I made in the beginning.
