They don't, but studios aren't likely to give free marketing.

There weren't any ridiculous product placements in this show, at least. On some of the other shows I watch (Arrow, I'm looking at you and your Windows 8 placements), it's constant and obnoxious.

I hope with the six episodes they have, they delve more into main story, rather than do monster of the week.
First and last episode will be main plot. The rest are monster of the week, hopefully with a little main plot sprinkled in to each episode.

With the can of worms they opened up with this episode, I expect these MotW episodes to be 3/4 monster, 1/4 mythos like some of the earlier episodes were for awhile. Don't forget this is only a 6-part event, they can't complete an arc that quickly unless they gave us all the plot they want last night, and are going to end the series with a stalemate and "The Truth is Out There".

If that is how they decide to end it though, I would have preferred if they didn't do this reboot. I want actual closure, not a quick cash grab.

    Question on the episode:

    Spoiler: show

I never fully watched all of X-Files - it was more like an episode here and there whenever it was on TV. Who was the guy at the end scene? New character or recurring? The way they presented him was more like a "dun dun dunnn look who's back!" way.
That guy is in the first episode of X-files. I don't know how anyone has watched X-files without knowing who he is.

FinderSpyder has been in way more shows than just x-files, its like the search engine version for shows of using 555 for all phone numbers. Actually its more like people using Acme for the name of a big company that makes tons of random shit. Its a modern fictional brand but its been used in literally shitloads of shows for the past 20 years.

See that's the thing. Having more Mulder and Scully can be great by itself, but I think a lot of the fans (at least speaking for myself) wanted some kind of minor closure on the entire plot they had going for so long. The two movies were awful and didn't help much. What happened to the alien invasion? Whats going on with their baby (seems like they might confront this)? We want them to have an ending that makes some sense. I'm less interested in what the X-Files might have to say about drones, or Edward Snowden. Joel McHales character felt very confusing. The show presented him half like he was supposed to be a ridiculous conspiracy theory Fox News goofball, but also he's trustworthy and his nonsense is true? It just didn't work for me.

Even still I'm hopeful to see what the non Chris Carter writers can come up with. If there's anything half as good as some of their best episodes I'll be happy.

I think the idea is that Mulder was following the wrong thing the entire 9 years of his quest for the truth, and they did mention colonization having "started" instead of actually being complete.

And yeah, they're definitely going to delve into William.

I was half expecting Brita to pop up, a la Lone Gunmen, and say some shit about existence of underground feminist movement to fight women's abductions.

Fuck me up this was an amazing, heart-wrenching episode.

    Spoiler: show
THOSE FUCKING WILLIAM DREAM/NIGHTMARE SEQUENCES THOUGH.

God bless everyone involved with making this show come alive again, it's been 14 fucking years since the show ended and I have never felt so alive.

Didn't like this episode much. Is it just me or did Scully sound like a grandma for a bit. There seems to be a correlation with women cast and attractiveness... Also wtf at that Ford camera collision detection technology product placement. That scene was so unnecessary.

That second episode was so much better and more interesting. Nothing like a good ol' Scully autopsy. Only complaint was that the occasional "look, were in modern times!" references need to let up. Mulder using the fingerprint to sign in to the smartphone was appropriate. Scully's "pre-Google" joke was a little labored. But Mulder just blurting out "Obamacare" felt forced. So just a minor thing that bothered me. Please just let up on those references that just reinforce how dated the show is.

The shot with the hall full of kids was really cool --holy shit the girl spooning oatmeal into her oozing, saggy jowls! The middle 4 monster of the week episodes will probably be the best of the batch. I'm just fearing that ep. 6 will conclude with things left undone and then Fox will not order a new season.

Speaking of jowls, is it me or are David Duchovny's saggy cheeks turning him into Walter Mathau.

That was weird, I thought it was going to be something that was useful for the plot, and it just never came up lol.

This image came to mind while reading this post. I'm not sure what else you expect from this show. It had all the makings of a great X Files episode. Not to mention it looks like they're trying to tie up loose ends left from the original series. Scully sounds like Scully.

Loved it personally, and those twins were fucking brutal. Mulder's "you can't unsee that kind of stuff" line killed me.

I liked this one more than the last one. Really liked the end when they showed Mulder thinking about their son too. The references to current day don't bother me, that's how the show was years ago.

Now that I've seen the first episode I'd have to say it felt rushed. Like it should've been 90 min instead of 60 to give them more time to digest some things and introduce the characters
