I've had this happen once when we were mostly messing around testing stuff. after 15 min he just says he's bored or something and warps.

Pretty much. Had too many pickup people who either healed by nuking wrong, or just did poor damage.

It can't be just based on time alone; I've been in pickup runs where we timed out after smacking Plouton for over 30 minutes, with no warp.

Personal bias, personal bias, personal bias, personal bias.

Ok now that I screamed about it, anybody ever noticed some odd behaviour on bosses? Like their magic evasion sometimes being unusually higher than it normally is?

yeah sometimes out of the blu my nukes get resisted out of nowhere and the numbers drop in half for the next 3-4 nukes and then spike right up. I dont know what causes this. this is especially noticable on the brumbill in brashgate.

Are people spamming the same element of whatever nuke you're using? NMs gain cumulative resistance to magic if they're being barraged by a lot of nukes in a short timespan, ever since that update a long time ago

My vague recollection of that is that it was for enfeebles, not nukes. This being the reason that NMs builds resistance to stun, etc after awhile.

Same I could swear SE notes said it was for enfeebles and people just assumed it was all magic but I've never really seen anything to make me thing that is definitely the case

I was doing ele wing. Noticed a lot of resists on Threnodies T2. My macc set on BRD is not BiS, but it's pretty good.
At the same time I noticed MB and nukes in general were doing less damage.
We had the same exact buffs as previous and following runs.
Same thing happened on the umbril and on the wing boss.
Less damage than usual from magic, lots of resist from my threnodies.

I swear I have no clue, I went to the lenghts of checking my midcast set to see if it was broken, if I forgot some items in MH, if some GEO wasn't using Languor...
Maybe it's just a huge coincidence or bias, I don't know what to say, or maybe there are some aspects that provide random buffs to these bosses, similar to Incursion's adherents or some other random mechanic?

There was definately a nerf to elemental magic cast repeatedly about 8-9ishish years ago, but I don't think it was limited by element, just lots of nuking in quick succession.

Yeah, the reason they did that was to try to reign in BLMs againg/timed nuking everything to death. It definitely affects elemental magic of all kinds (you can even see it happening when you use astral conduit) but no testing has ever been done on it, and it had long since been forgotten in the annals of version update history

"Currently, a large number of players can team up to overpower the enemy in certain battles by hitting the enemy repeatedly with only elemental magic. This tactic has had an unbalancing effect on the game, and we decided a change was needed.

However, altering the effects of powerful magic spells would have a negative effect on black mages and other magic users. Rather than altering magic effects or strengthening monsters, we determined that the adjustment to solve this issue should be as small as possible in scope and affect other gameplay mechanics as little as possible.

Therefore, for the next update we have decided to implement an accumulative magic resistance effect for all monsters whose strength reads "impossible to gauge."

We have also made several other adjustments to minimize the effect of this change on black mages and other magic users. For example, a party fighting a notorious monster with one to two black mages will probably not notice the difference.

However, we have decided to give Bahamut in the quest "The Wyrmking Descends" and Diabolos in the quest "Waking Dreams" a stronger accumulative magic resistance than other notorious monsters.

    -Types of Affected Magic Damage
When a notorious monster is repeatedly hit by the following types of magic, it will accumulatively build magic resistance:

Black magic (elemental), white magic (divine), ninjutsu, magical blood pact abilities, magical blue magic, magical weapon skills (e.g., Spirits Within and Red Lotus Blade), and certain job abilities (e.g., Chi Blast and Mijin Gakure)

    -Resistance Fluctuation
When a monster with accumulative magic resistance is hit by a magic attack, the amount of damage it receives will decrease in accordance with that monster's resistance. At the same time, its resistance will increase.

The monster's resistance will increase in accordance with the amount of damage incurred, but each monster has a maximum resistance level.

In addition, the monster's resistance will decrease with time if it is not hit by any repeated magic attacks."

This has nothing to do with the phenomena I was experiencing though.

First: I could see a higher resistance rate from the second the NM was popped.
Second: In all other runs (previous and following) with the identical setup and people, damage from magic was higher (they were dying much quicker and each SC was taking a higher % of HP) and I had no issues with landing threnodies whatsoever.

So again... I have no proof at all, it's the first time I see this happening and it might be a random occurrence, bias or whatever else. But **IF** there is a strange buffing mechanic, it has nothing to do with that nerf you guys are talking of.

It *could* be a simple hardware hiccup, given that it's an entire party, that would rule out clientside derping.
It's not like SE's servers aren't running on pentium 2s... if even.

Or it could be that for that one run PPL were being "MP cautious" as I like to call it, casting T3s instead of T5s for MP concerns.
But if it's an actual hiccup, it'll be the Ra'kaznar U server. (which might mean it will only happen on your world-server's server network. Cause I don't believe that instanced servers are shared between worlds... SE isn't that bad.)

A 'server hiccup' cannot in any way account for increased magic resistance. Jesus christ, who told you you were allowed to talk about technology?

I've never observed anything like that, are you positive you didn't lose any buffs? Even changing from idris focus/languor to normal focus/languor results in a very apparent shift in resists(nuking in full damage set, ofc).

Low-manning elementals where I'm the only nuker, I find that when I resist, it's usually a cluster of multiple consecutive resists. Dunno what it means, it seems completely random.

I can't be 100% sure. Once again: this might be just my bias, but people in my run were surprised as well (ls run).

First I checked if my midcast wasn't equipping for some reason ==> negative, all was fine
Then I checked if I forgot some items in MH ==> negative
Then I asked if Frazzle2 was up ==> it was up
Then I asked if Languor was up and if the buffs were the same as the previous (and following) run ==> they were

Can't be 100% sure on the last 2 parts of course, I just go by what people replied to my tells. If they told me lies I have no way to tell. It could be of course.
I just found it strange. I did occasionally get some resists on threnodies agaisnt T4 or the Umbril, but never SO MANY. I got resisted over 40 times, after which I stopped counting.
Maybe it had to do with day of the week or something, no clue.

This may be old news but on Brash Gate, this PLD in our group made the bold claim that the last pillar to despawn contained the NM. I decided to test this claim and we both watched which pillar vanished last and every time on the two runs we went, that was the pillar that had the NM in it. And considering we were both on different machines in different parts of the world, I think that might be a good lead to make Brash less painful.

How do you check for pillars vanishing? You mean as you activate one?
Also from my small experience if for some reason you incur into a client lag/Delay and some pillars do not load for you in your client, those pillars will never contain the NM.

Have a friend who often has this issue happening with him, we had him tell us which pillars didn't load up, and so far it's been 100% accurate over the last few weeks. (granted that he wasn't getting the "no load" all the times, of course)

Yes, as you activate one, they vanish in different intervals.

This may be a gambler's falacy though, as the third run had an issue where three pillars vanished at the same time. Likewise we had a very glitchy experience where we popped one pillar, and the game proceeded to just throw wave after wave of mob at us, even mobs from different pillars in different families, until the boss popped. It's like it decided that every pillar had been hit at once, and queued them up.

Brash Gate is still an asshole it seems.
