In resume effective today, all futureshops in canada are closed, and some of them will reopen in 1-2 weeks as a Bestbuy.

I'm kinda sad by this, because even though they are the same shop I always liked the futureshop ambiance more then Bestbuy

The worse thing is that the employees had no idea, most of them learned it by going to work this morning

Best Buy's electronics section has always been shit every time I've been to one compared to a Future Shop.

Future's usually had one of the walls decked out in PC hardware and a few rows of laptops/tablets to venture through, and more for console games/backlogs in general, at least the ones I've visited regularly. Going to miss ye olde store of the red poles. It didn't feel like it was trying to compete with Walmart compared to their owner.

Without knowing which ones are closing down and which are being converted to best buy, some of them have absolutely no purpose being converted to best buys:

Montreal, Marche Central:



I'm sure there are PLENTY of other situations like this across Canada, where rebranding a Future Shop into a Best Buy when there already exists a Best Buy within walking distance is just a dumb business practice.

I'm looking around on the Best Buy site and it does seem to have stores listed as closed temporarily. I haven't look around enough to see if there's any listed as closed permanently.

Nothing with the postal code for the Heritage Meadows one is listed on the Best Buy website. Same with the Quebec one.

That would make it seem, to me, that those will not be reopening.

My wife was pretty excited at the prospect of Best Buy as the ones in the States appear to be pretty good from what she remembers. That beign said, I reminded her of the Target debacle. I guess the main difference here is the store near us is just rebranding, I would think that would make it essentially the exact same as it was before.

I'm not having much luck find which stores closed. Saw an article listing 9 stores in BC. I also saw that if a FC was located near a BB, it got closed.

It appears that Google Maps has some Futureshops listed as permanently closed in BC.

The only two that are being rebranded in calgary (based on them being listed on the store locator under "Future Shop operated by Best Buy") that I noticed both dont have any Best Buy's within a 15 minute driving distance.

It appears that Google Maps has some Futureshops listed as permanently c in BC.

And the ones listed as "Operated by Best Buy" seem to be the ones designated for rebranding.

After gamestop bought electronics boutique, I remember seeing a few instances of them both still being operated in the same mall/plaza for years

They could also prefer the locations of some of the future shops to convert and vacate the best buy space.

Went into one of those tiny best buys that isn't located in a city for the first time this year. Was really depressing, like one of those old malls hanging on for dear life with the lights dimmed in whole wings.
