It sounds like people just want to login after a patch and do 1 fight then sit and watch 20 min of cutscenes and be bored for 3 months (note 3 hours of work isn't much better but whatever)

You would think with linkshells being a thing, that you wouldn't have to travel back and forth constantly just to report some findings etc. Every single time.
Well the problem with that is...
Spoiler: show
Whenever your character's mouth starts flapping during cutscenes (or those "hand motion" explanations), I imagine the Charlie Brown muted-trumpet/trombone playing: wawah wah wah wawawah wah wah (if you need a reminder lol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFPXQkZE6hA ).
I particularly enjoy doing cutscenes with a full facemask on. Mouth moving? Nope. Facial expressions? Nope.
Talk to the fucking chocobo mask.
I had to quote myself here because there's actually a possible retcon in the making regardless, and it lies in the 2.2 story cutscene when you are first formally acquainted to Lady Yugiri and her Doman people:
Now... this could mean two things. Either she's trying to make a show of being a masked is better off because she's an Au Ra, or she's trying to play down the fact that she's a Ninja, but it's alright because it's an unfamiliar job to those lands (already retconned in 2.4). The plothole is easily solved by them going into the cutscene and simply changing the text with a "race checker" prompt, as they've done many times already, retroactively post expansion.Alphinaud: Lady Yugiri, forgive me for observing, but...your choice of attire seems like to evoke feelings of mistrust.
Yugiri: Men are wont to fear the unfamiliar. We know this from experience.
Yugiri: We seek only to spare the people of Ul'Dah unnecessary disquiet.
Alphinaud: I shall defer to your experience, then.
Yugiri: I thank you for your understanding.
I'm kind of wondering how the Au Ra are supposed to fit into the world, or how they'll integrate them into the story.
Will it just all be ret-conned so that they've been around the whole time and they're just super uncommon outside of their native region (a la male mithra in XI).
Half-dragon people sounds like something the Ishgardians would not appreciate (also brings back the whole line about Shiva having laid with a dragon), are they supposed to be from Doma or are we going to get to Ishgard and find a ton of Au Ra there and there's some kind of explanation?
Or is the race just gonna be entirely unexplained (like the origins of the other races) and they just wanted to add a new race? Seems unlikely tbh, it feels like it's gotta have some world-significance because otherwise they had a laundry list of other FF races they could have added to the game. I don't think anyone was clamoring for playable elv-serpent people.
My guess is from the new lands beyond Coerthas and they didn't come over to Eorzea because of Ishgard's racism.
Though admittedly if you make an Au Ra character and then waltz into Ishgard it's gonna be a bit awkward.
Wasn't it the second highest poll option behind another mammalian crossbreed? I thought Yoshida mentioned the serpent-people option was popular in the Europes and that adding Viera as an example for the mammalian halfbreed was a mistake and skewed the results too heavily he felt.
I could be high as fuck, but I was pretty sure Yoshida expressed his own interest and the playerbase's in a serpent-people race after that poll a thousand years ago.
But it does leave itself to mention that they may or may not take out the time to retcon every cutscene for Au Ra people. At the very least, they will change up the prompts where your specific race is mentioned in the CS (for example Kupdi Koop & Kupta Kapa mocking your race in question when you do the missions to unlock King Moggle Mog XII (Hard)). It'll end up still justifying you being allowed to Ishgard, despite being an Au Ra (and Ishgard native).

Yep, and almost no one wanted Dark Knight style.
Explains making it a Tank instead of sacrificial damage based like it normally is.
Scythes ARE stupid. Prior to FFXI there was like one Scythe in the entire FF universe and it was Deathsickle, which was technically an Axe. When I first saw DRK in FFXI I was like why the fuck are they not using Great Swords or swords like every other DRK in history of FF.
Also I'm kinda disappointed in DRK AF so far. I expected it to be a more uniform black/dark purple but then i guess it would look too much like DRG(which I thought looks more like DRK than DRG armor. If there's one thing FFXI got right, it was JSE AF/AF2 armor. FFXIV's AF armor looks too WoWish(also I dislike how DRG's arms are exposed in FFXIV unlike the FFXI version. DRK AF so far looks too strange, with the weird skirt thing.
It looks like a WoW's Death Knight or a Dremora from Oblivion.

Wierd skirt thing. I love it. That's rich.
Scythes are very popular in Japanese and Korean anime/gaming though, so I didn't mind Scythe on Dark Knight since it fit the fact they focus around Death and sacrifice. (Grim reaper doesn't use anything other than a Scythe largely and no one seems to have an issue with it.)
YoshiP does seem to want to change things for the fuck of it as he explained he made Ragnarok an Axe because "things in FF change"..well yeah but they don't change just because. What next, the Relic for Machinist will be called the Tizona? The Caldabolg? The Ukonvasara?
Considering Summoner is XIV's Warlock from WoW I guess it does make sense if DRK is designed after Death Knight from WoW too.
