Ok so did some messing around on a group of metal Scumbags andheres how it went

Minstrel (50% SP) Altruist (converts EXP into SP 4.5%) Instructor (EXP +35%) Equipment (Converts EXP into SP 3%) gauge +494.3 EXP = 14285
Minstrel (50% SP) Altruist (converts EXP into SP 5%) Instructor (EXP +50%) Equipment (Converts EXP into SP 3%) gauge +494.3 EXP = 17495
Minstrel (50% SP) Altruist (converts EXP into SP 5%) Instructor (EXP +50%) Equipment (Converts EXP into SP 3%) gauge +494.3 EXP Using reserve rush = 67760

Minstrel (50% SP) Altruist (converts EXP into SP 4.5%) Instructor (EXP +35%) Equipment (Converts EXP into SP 3%) gauge +493.7 EXP Using reserve rush x3 2nd at 209% 3rd at 135.4 = 82340

So it might or might not keep applying the reserve rush bonus idk i didnt build it up enough was getting bored would really have to use it at 450-500% twice in a row to really tell i was getting bored though done testing! Convert all your shit from EXP to SP to farm and keep using the gauge to maximize profits since filling up EXP % is super easy.

    Edit: did some quick math
14285*8.381 (% of all 3 reserve gauge added together) =119722.585 and what i got was 82340. I think its applying each reserve rush after the first to the base before any bonuses are applied. or something like that so they are applied in some way but i don't think its worth building it up multiple times for 1 group of weak monster. A boss would be better since those battle last so long anyway.

Thats pretty bullshit the gauge only works when you use the reserve rush. I wanted a passive buffer like 4 had

I'd assume shortcakes are equivalent to instructor in the math as they also give a 50% bonus for three fights. Super cheap to make as well.

It does provide a passive bonus its only 10% of what you've built up though. so if you have 100% built up you only gain a 10% bonus. Using the gauge just provides a much bigger bonus.

I'm just taking it for what it is, a good natured attempt at rebooting the franchise post Last Hope.

If they allow a SO6, I have a feeling it'll learn from the mistakes here. It's a good effort for a franchise thats been left to rot.

Overall, I think its a pretty good compromise between SO2's *very* drawn out crafting system and SO3's gameplay. Just need a little polish here and a lot of polish there.

I'm just kind of upset there is nothing that kind of introduces you to crafting or side content (unless it happens after Chapter 8). The game tends to push you in the direction of the story and away from side content...

Just beat the main story at about 25 hours in with maybe half-ish of the side quests done. As a star ocean fan, I liked it. Combat system is fun. Characters play like slightly rebalanced clones of SO3 counterparts and having 6+1 on the field at a time is neat. It gets a bit hectic with so many attacks/spells/effects going off at once, though, and it can be hard to tell when an enemy's using a normal attack vs a strong attack for the combat triangle when they're being bombarded by overlapping animations from 2 different attack spells and 3-4 different special attacks.

    Story:
    Spoiler: show
I don't have any major complaints about the game's story, but I feel like they played it ultra-safe after the nonsensical disaster that was SO4. MC started out as a credible, mature, master swordsman with connections that he wasn't afraid to use. He had armies and spec ops at his back for pretty much the entire game. It didn't really feel like he or any of the main cast aside from Relia/Feria was ever in any real danger.

Probably the biggest thing that bothered me by the end is that I don't think it was never really explained why the Kronos coup faction was arming the natives and actively engaging in the Faykreedian war unless I missed something somewhere. It's kind of an integral plot point. We know the Kronos coup faction scientists were using Faykreed's native fauna (including the people) as test subjects for corruption research and that they chose to operate on Faykreed because of the whole Time Gate looking thing. But what were they actually gaining by arming the desert people and fighting the knight people? I mean, these guys are Star Trek. They don't really need a cover to abduct people. They could transport as many of them as they needed right out of their homes and the Faykreedians would never be able to find their cloaked underground base. The Knights didn't even have anything important in their territory. If anything, the Ancient Institute in Mageland was the only target of any potential value to them that they didn't already control.

I've heard a lot of complaints about the sudden, unexplained emotional development between the characters, and while I'll admit it's a little unusual that these people would be willing to throw away everything they've ever known to save a little girl they met on the road nothing else really struck me as out of place. Miki went from typical Japanese tropey "adoptive little sister" to 'omg marry me before it's too late!' after spending her whole life with MC and seeing their world get turned upside down, which is a pretty understandable reaction. As for the whole "I couldn't live without you" scene with Relia, I feel like it's fairly understandable that when you're faced with an 8(?) year old staring down an existential crisis and contemplating suicide you say whatever the fuck you need to say to make them stay alive. MC decided to become a father for this kid (probably as a result of his own issues with his emotionally distant absentee father and the subsequent loss thereof), and he went all in on it saying whatever he needed to say to support her.

Overall, this was a cast made up of adults who acted like adults which was refreshing but ultimately not particularly exciting. It's a good palate cleanser to keep the franchise alive while Tri-Ace hopefully looks at SO6.

Party level ranged from 66-69 for the final boss. I may have been a tad underleveled given how often my AI melee got one-shot though. It wasn't a terribly difficult fight overall, but it was tedious.

Yes, NPC's have 2 sets of dialogues: Automatic and Initiated. Sometimes both can go pretty quick.

    Spoilered because.

    Spoiler: show
I'm at the point where youve gotten the 2nd ship and the transport key back. Finishing up PA's and had a PA in Trei'kur with Miki basically saying fidel is to spend the rest of his life with her after the Relia situation is over, which sucked beacause I was trying to set Fidel up with Anne.

I think my next story goal is to enter the Research Facility Prime. Nearing lvl 90 and about 40 hours in. How far from the end am I?

PAs are scripted and don't change afaik. Miki is just possessive. I'm pretty sure character endings are only set in stone after the point of no return which is clearly marked. You can still get Anne's ending.

After Research Facility Prime, you still have another dungeon on Faykreed before hitting the point of no return and the final story dungeon. If you want to see multiple character endings, I'd make a new save just before the point of no return so that you can come back and abuse affection items later.

My game is glitching up right at the point where I'm about to beam onto the enemy ship. This is pretty late in the game, I think.

The game won't load past that beam, instead I'm stuck at the loading screen with a weird pop up that says "downloading game 90%..." and it stays like that forever.

If I press a button , all I get is a prompt to go back to the title screen.

Google shows this was a common error with watchdog amd GTA 5, but there is literally nothing on how to fix this for star ocean 5.

Help me out pls I'll suck your dick. My 37hour save file! And yes I got the digital copy.

Make sure you have 20+ gig free space. My PS4 starts getting goofy below 20. Also, copy the save to a USB, delete the save (quicksave, regular, and autosave) on the PS4, put your save back from USB. If that doesn't work, keep the save on the USB, and delete the game and all saves, reinstall. If that doesn't work, keep the save on USB and rebuild the PS4 through Safe Mode and such.
