Ordered a Nexus 5X with Project Fi service tonight. Google is even doing a similar setup to other carriers with financing options available for the device price.
Will keep you updated on how it goes.

I've had Fi for about 3 months now. It's pretty much smooth going but i'm a little down that there's no upgrade plans available for people who already bought Nexus 6's. I had mine for less than 30 days but more than the 14 day buyers remorse period so I was stuck with what I had. Can't beat the monthly bill though, I paid $33~ for my last months bill.
I got back this weekend from a two week vacation. Went to Costa Rica (Guanacaste area) and Mexico (just north of Playa del Carmen). Had full service 90% of the time with mobile data, only lost it when we were in the rainforest areas (understandably).
Haven't had any problems at all within the US. Even at the in-laws where Verizon failed miserably to get any service at all I have full service on Project Fi.
Have similar sentiments about upgrades. I also got my phone within a month of the new models being released.
This looks interesting, but are you buying the capability to talk/text/etc. for $20 a month, or is it actually unlimited talk/text/etc.? Because it sounds like they're routing a lot of their talking over the 4G LTE network, which means it would contribute to that $10/GB total.
I also signed up for Fi and the Nexus 5X (I did it the day pre-orders went live). I got my Fi invite back around the time I was looking for a new phone, but I wasn't really wanting something as big as the 6 so I held off. The LG G4 came out around that time too, so I went with that instead. It's been a good phone, but I'm looking forward to having a Nexus. It shipped yesterday, expected to be delivered Thursday. I go out of town on Friday, so my first experience with Fi will be seeing how it works when I travel.
The $20 base prices gives unlimited talk/text. My only question around that is with VoLTE, will it also count against data? I haven't found an official answer, but I don't make a lot of calls so I'm not too worried about that. I'll watch my data usage and see if I can figure out the answer though. For now I assume they separate it out, kinda like T-Mobile makes certain music streaming apps not count against your data.
I was interested in using project fi until I realized that I use on average 7GB of data each month because I watch way too much you tubes during my commute, which doesn't really mean that I'd save that much money of any in the long run.
My sim card arrives Friday.
I am excite.
Project Fi has been so much better for me cost wise, and coverage wise so far. Bill tends to be around $30, and I have service when I am on a road in the middle of nowhere. Now if I could just get to Austin for that Google Fiber, and be done with AT&T once and for all...
Yeah my bill is around $30/month plus the $22/month for the phone. Should have paid it outright, but wanted the extra cash on hand for tips for the wedding.
Last month I used 9GB this month I'm at 6. No way this will be any cheaper.
Do you guys stream Netflix over mobile data or something? I only used about 1GB last month and don't normally go over 3GB.
I travel almost 100% right now. So I use the hell out of my phone.
I'm working on month 4 now and I'm still enjoying the service, but there's always a little reminder every now and then that this is still in beta. I think I might be having issues with my sim, it's having a hard time finding LTE in places i've normally had LTE. I've also noticed that it took a while to switch over to my wifi when I was home. I'm going to chalk it up to the weather being screwy (severe heavy thunderstorms for 3-4 days in a row) since most places I go will have LTE 100% of the time. If it continues to be a problem i'll just call Fi support.
The only issue I've had so far is one call I was on with a friend during lunch while I was at work. I was on the office wifi and the call was going through wifi. I had to go outside and move my car (alternate side parking) and when I went outside the wifi range it cut out for about 10 seconds. Only happened once in the multitude of times I've done that though.
I've noticed that it can take a couple minutes to switch over to the Google approved wifi hotspots, but I don't have an issue with my saved wifi networks.
Bump.
Seems they just opened the flood gates on this. No invite required. Current promotion is the Nexus 5x for $200. Ordered mine this morning and can't wait to try it out.
I posted last year about being on Republic Wireless. I'm a cheap bastid and am still rocking the gen 1 Moto X. Tired of waiting on a new phone from them. From reading their forums, their community is tired as well. Anyone else here still using Project Fi? So far I've read nothing but good things.
Still on it. I've had no problems with it and I had great reception in Costa Rica and Mexico when I went on my honeymoon. Data doesn't cost anything extra abroad, nor do texts. Calls are like $.10 a minute or something when international.
Still on it here as well. I've had an issue lately with GPS dropping out even though I have LTE. Not sure if it's the phone or Fi, but it comes back quickly so it hasn't been too bad. Other than that, everything has been smooth sailing.
Just an update. I have had Project Fi for 2 months. I have had no service issues -- I use roughly 1GB a month since I am on WiFI quite often and my bill averages 28$ a month. I just converted my girlfriend to it, and they currently have a deal where you get 150$ off a new phone with activation..... My VZW bill was 95$ every month, it costed me back them almost 320$ for the phone and in a matter of 5 months I will have made my money back.... DO IT.
Yep. My T-Mobile bill was $85 before I owned my Nexus 4, and $70 after.
Google Fi puts me at around $30. The Nexus six was paid off in about 6 months.
My wife got a Nexus 5 with Fi and likes it so far (DC area).
