The issue lies in the design of permissions Admin gets. Due to the way accounts are set up, an Admin can see PMs (dick & tit pics) as well as passwords so Scragg doesn't trust many with Admin permissions but the guy who replaced me has access to a repository for the site. Not 100% sure how that works.

Oh well isn't that lovely. Lol.

I guess Scraggy Jean is not your lover. He just claims that your replacement is the one. But the permissions usurp your own.

I used to do it in Dolphin, but it was a nightmare. Mostly from the images from avatars and sigs .
Dolphin seems to lock up on my OPO too so now I've been back to chrome. Better browser anyway.

Adminning can definitely be a tricky thing. While some may advocate the best ones are the ones you don't even know are there, you'll still have those who think they should be a community presence.

On the drama end, I used to code and manage MUX/MUSH games a decade+ back. For the most part, it wasn't hard work, but sometimes you'd get people who were a pain to deal with. Anyway, I'm working a FF-themed game and the guy in charge was like, "Hey, we need a new host." I acknowledge that I know someone and we get that covered. Not long after, the guy pretty much disappears, leaving me the only one with the know how to fix anything if it breaks. Fine, okay. Rest of the other staff generally thinks his RL got busy, it happens, we'll carry on. Fast forward about 6 months and the guy suddenly logs on, kicks all staff offline, and changes their passwords. My paranoia kicks in so I'm logging into the game's shell to kill the process there and modify a few things to initiate recovery. I get things back up, restore character access to everyone but him, and just kind of wait to see what unfolds.

Eventually the guy logs in on a basic character, proclaiming that we stole his game. I'm sitting here scratching my head thinking, "Uh, dude, you pretty much abandoned it." Realistically, none of us would've had a problem bringing him back into the shuffle, but I think his rub was some of us wouldn't immediately take him back as leader because of that absence. I further went on to emphasize that attacking your own staff in the manner that he did was a pretty shit move and killed any hope of me approving his return. But by this point, the damage had been done. You had older players who "preferred" things when he was in charge, which was just another way of saying he let them get away with shit that didn't fly under my watch. I could sum up his plots in one sentence, "Bad guys win." Great if you played the bad guys, but realistically, they were a minority... and dare I say not the best players in general. Whatever. Guy eventually makes another game elsewhere, trying to poach a few players from us. He's still playing the sympathy card about being robbed, but in general, I don't shut down any talks of people mentioning the new place unless they start parroting him in calling us all sorts of unsavory things. There's a fine line between criticism and being an ungrateful twit, you know?

Things chug on like this for a couple more months when I wake up/log in Christmas morning to find all the room and object data had been destroyed. I start digging and find the cause, an empowered object he had associated with a utility character a lot of MU*s use for dictionary purposes. My fault for not sniffing that out? Perhaps, but this was basically the second time he said, "Fuck you!" to everyone else. I quickly reinstall some basic functions and get the word out on what happened. Naturally, his chuckleheads are singing his praises, claiming we got what we deserve, we're done, etc.. Other bystanders were more concerned with what was going to happen next. I could've restored the old data and fixed the vulnerability, but I decided not to. Why? Because if I literally remade the game, there wouldn't be a shred of code of "his" that had been "stolen" as had been claimed. I reaffirmed that I had been handling hosting without a dime of expense incurred to him and that I wouldn't then be spinning this "cataclysmic event" into an actual plot to restart the game anew. I picked up a couple willing players to take on some menial tasks while I handled the big things, appointing other staff to overseeing various plot points, and of course getting logs back to me to review and see how much we were on track or if some deviation was required. And it fucking worked.

One thing I wanted to emphasize was that his cronies didn't have it made simply because they were still controlling their bad guys. Objectives were orchestrated to pit them against each other and even seek out aid from the good guys. Mechanically, as the plot progressed and the mysteries of the cataclysm unraveled, we opened up new locations that had been built by myself and some of those earlier mentioned helpers. The draw was they all had the power to rebuild the world, for better or worse, and with that a social benefit that even original characters could capitalize upon whereas the old guard was pretty staunchly in favor of feature characters being greater than all. We run them through their labors, we get a world rebuilt, we have newer and much better code, more players than before, and in what some might consider icing on the cake, the final showdown being against me and the threat I opted to personify. Hey, the haters had a chance to kick my ass while others were eager to get their win and settle into their new habitat. It wasn't easy. I had to break players off into groups per staffer, in a way mimicking FF6's final tower and different parties facing different paths and bosses. Not everyone was going to make it, but that didn't mean they were going to die (player death was something we usually left up to the individual). In the end, I think 5 of the 10 legendary weapons we'd scattered around the world wound up making it to that final fight.

Perhaps the bigger moral out of all this is to know your audience. Even before all the drama of the above began, I knew there were some people that didn't like me for one reason or another. As things escalated, yes, some people got shown the door. Others were given a chance they might normally not have gotten. Mistakes were made along the way, but I really wasn't going to let the good players get carried down by the drama of the troublemakers. All because a teen had a temper tantrum. Go fig.

I mentioned the guy who had me thrown out had his girlfriend made a mod, she claims she has moderated forums before but I don't think she has, she also said she plays FFXI as a Red Mage which the BF-mod told me was false. I understand the whole come up and ask me for directions thing, that happens. I look European I guess because I don't look American apparently. Was told a dozen times that I look Swedish by the Swedes.

Some old man stopped me to ask where something was in Czech which i cant fucking speak. Some guy stopped me asking for directions to some place i have never heard of. Then some Italian couple asked me out of the tons of fucking people around me, for help getting to their embassy. This happens more often then it should. All today while I was about.
Then someone driving by while I was leaning against a pillar in the square watching the city for a moment. Stopped his car, honked over to me (90 degrees), and when I look over he is waving to me. So I paused with a (O.õ) and then said fine fuck it and waved happily back.

I was climbing the Petrín Tower. After deciding to literally climb the mountain grabbing tree roots because who uses the constructed walkway?
So, I see this guy far in the distance who did happen to use the walk way with a cane and I assumed he has cerebral palsy or something from his walk. That or he was a cool drunk like House.
I decided after a short jaunt that I should climb to the top of the Petrín (after paying of course -_-) and who do I encounter again, but the same guy.
I go to pass him on the stairs (yeah I know, stairs) thinking how ballsy he is since he is clutching the railing without the cane this time (younger guy) slowly making his way up.
He sees me and then by proxy I see him.
Thought "egh I'm sure he will make it fine" and I keep going. Past the mid deck where there's a break in the railing.
15 seconds later I turn around with a sigh thinking "fuuuuuck, just couldn't keep walking could yah Ryan?"
He is reaching the break in the stairs and I reach out my hand and pull him up.
Anyway, apparently he just has a bad leg(s?) And not CP or something. Some birth something or other. I didn't push, but he was chill about it saying he at least gets good parking and to look drunk anytime he wants.

Eventful day, think I covered 25KM or so.
