Rained lightly while I biked to my obstacle course today. Stopped when I got there. Poured like a storm on my bike ride home.

So mad that I didn't get to run my course in the rain. The bike rides were fun though

I also didn't know we specified this to be something other than the typical residential street for a bus. I figured since you were stopped its not a two lane road.

On a two lane, yes, obviously the kid has potential to cross the road to their house.
On a four lane, they are dropped off on the side of the road where their house is. Theres no need for the kid to cross the street.

Well...not to get into a serious debate or anything, but maintaining placement within the flow of traffic is more important than doing the speed limit. This goes for both low and high speeds. The act of braking itself (along with volume and some other things) is a large contributor to congestion and queuing. If everyone in the right lane is doing 55, and you merge on and only do 45, even if the speed limit is say 50, you're going to cause traffic congestion.

The same can be said if everyone is doing a constant 10 and you come on and do 20 then hit your brakes then accelerate back to 20 and hit your brakes. The act of hitting your brakes will cause the people behind you to slow/stop and create congestion.

Basically, traffic sucks. Doesn't help that all the design shit they teach doesn't actually get put into practice on the majority of roadways because of space restrictions and all the speed limits are based on a 2.5 sec reaction time before you being to hit your brakes along with sight stopping distances that are generally much shorter than actual distance that can be observed.

Eh, my commute is back roads, and one four lane. I have it so the speed I go perfectly matches lights, other cars etc. Not much braking or over gassing, just a steady 35.
Highway I go the speed of traffic if rush hour, any other time is 4 over the limit, usually in the middle lane.

I envy you... I deal with NYC traffic daily and it's terrible. I tell my fiancee all the time, I'd rather deal with lights and normal street traffic than highway stop and go if it takes the same amount of time. Unfortunately that isn't really an option because it's all fucking terrible.

I've got a second interview later today for a position that's walking distance from my residence.

I left a job 3 counties and 4 freeway merges away, fuck traffic and commuting. Tough I'm all for bus/train commuting, for whatever reason I didn't mind that when it was necessary.

Walking is an exception to this rule, unless you're talking about sidewalks and shit. If you're walking along the road, you intentionally walk on the wrong side to see traffic coming at you.

Yes, I am talking about pedestrian traffic, a 2 lane road within itself (regardless of action road traffic), two lanes of opposite walking people on a sidewalk, etc.

I mean yeah, a lot of places now have entrance/exit on opposite sides for like trams in airports now, but most of the time it's people trying to jam on and push you backwards when you're trying to get off.

I had a guy actually honking at me because I stopped for a bus with it's signs out in the parking lane when I was in the left hand lane.

Idk about you guys, but I don't ever see buses stopping on four lane roads here in NJ, and even then tthere's probably a median or divider and even then people likely won't stop on the other two lanes. So how often could someone in two opposite lanes stop for a bus like this?
