They're quite a bit easier then apex, especially if you're playing a build that makes good use of Hunter Arts (since they fill up super fast if you're hitting the marked areas).

The higher tier ones hit ridiculously hard, but the moves that do said crazy high damage have a slight charge up hesitation before executing compared to the normal versions.

So are those DLC quest mostly glamour gear, or is there real potent gear?

The Metroid gear is decent, especially the LBG if you fight something weak to Thunder (since it comes with Piercing Thunder internal ammo).

The cat gear all looks worse then Deviant S gear, but that shouldn't be surprising to anyone.

A few of the later pieces have some stand out skills, like the Marth armor has Crit Boost + Tenderizer with a 2+2+1 slots. No Slots on the head so you could replace it with Hayabusa and get Crit+2, WE, Crit Boost and whatever you can fit in with a good charm.

Other than that the weapons are average and you'll likely have a better weapon just to complete the DLC quests anyway. The real thing you want from the DLC are the Hyper Monsters like Deviljho and the cat with the World's Strongest Technique skill for Prowler mode.

Yeah locking quite a few Hyper monsters behind DLC is unfortunate. Joe, Rajang, Gold/Silver Raths are only available in hyper form from DLC, which sadly locks out leveling quite a few pieces of gear (or Esurient R armor, which is super flexible)

    Yay, "beat" the game

Demon Riot SA is so fucking dumb, especially after I learned the optimal face melt combo.

    For reference,

A, A (the double swing), X+A, immediately cancel with A, repeat. With Demon Riot III active and a Power Phial, you're dumping motion value comparable to GS over a 10 second span. Oh yeah and my SA set has 80% crit rate with Critical Boost, so lol.

AND Seregios Weapon + Razor Sharp gives me infinite white. For the entire fight I never once paused to use a whetstone.

I agree, I've been playing Striker SA for most of the game and it seems OP compared to other weapons in my experience, I was unlocking some Hypers and playing a bit with Hammer since I got my Tigrex Hammer done, Hyper Lavasioth took 15 minutes with the hammer (might be because I'm horrible at it though), Hyper Plesioth took less than 5 minutes with a Hellblade Axe, I don't know if they have different HP values but they're practically the same. Energy Charge III, Demon Riot III and an evade at will, if you add SA's moveset with the stationary infinite X > X combo, it's too good to pass up.

I'm kinda bummed cause Hammer is so satisfying to play, but hunts taking 10 minutes longer is... eh.

Fwiw I personally would dump Striker for Guild when playing SA. The extra speed with charging arts is negligible once you get Demon Riot charged, and the X, X combo is substantially lower dps then the combo I mentioned above, which is unavailable in Striker style

Will try, Striker fits my playstyle really well though, I don't know if losing the dodge and having to play less aggressively will end up with higher damage for me.

I think I finally know why I suck at playing Hammer, I can't aim for the head since I don't have a n3DS (can't really control the camera unless I stop moving) and the lock on locks you to the center of the monster, it's kind of hard to aim for the head and I always end up either missing by very little or hit the neck/legs, if I actively try to aim for the head I lose way too much time just trying to hit it to be worth it.

Also, I've yet to meet a good LS hunter, every single one of them either trips you endlessly, spouts some bankai shit or both.

I use full Silverwind for my SA set, so the evasion + 2 from that paired with the SA side hop is more then enough for me.

As for LS, that's pretty much standard for the weapon, it always attracts those kinds of people. Adept LS is way less likely to trip people due to how it levels up the spirit gauge, which is nice and honestly the only way I like playing the weapon.

Adept LS is definitely in my top 5 for weapons/styles, along with Guild SA, Adept CB, Adept Bow, and Striker SnS (I stopped playing Aerial because it's too goddamn broken and makes the game no fun)

Today, before starting the HR quests, I fought my first deviant, Snowbaron Lagombi. The fight itself is pretty interesting, but... It has A TON of HP, and according to Kiranico, the one in the first quest doesn't have that much compared to the others: around 3800 HP in the first quest, 5000 HP in the second, and is accompanied by a regular Lagombi, and in the third you fight two with around 4k HP each. Even if I like to solo the whole game, it kinda discourages me from doing so, so much HP can get really boring. I have pretty much the best weapons in each category you can get in LR, yet I took quite some time to kill the first tier.

The higher tiers of deviants just really aren't feasible to solo unless you're a serious masochist.

Any of the Deviant + Bulldrome ones would be fucking infuriating. And if you want/try to solo X, given the HP on them it would be quite difficult to solo the mobs before the next one would spawn.

Think I've hit the wall of no longer caring. I still greatly enjoy playing, but I just have nothing to play for other then trying to hunt for awards or leveling up other weapons (and accompanying armor set) I'll never use. Still, got about 200 hours out of the game which is pretty good considering there was no G rank stuff this time around.

You don't solo deviants unless you want to challenge yourself or something, it's simply not worth it. I've soloed some level 1-2's but didn't bother with the rest since the higher levels only inflate the HP/damage they do.

I'm losing desire to play too, I can't find a charm worth a damn so I can't really mix gears, I've also finished the 6* Village quests I had left and I'm mindblown at how easy they are, I remember having a hard time with them when I unlocked them.

I tried to do the Deviljho + Tigrex + Nargacuga one as soon as I unlocked it, but I'm not good enough to not get hit ever, and considering that Jho's hipcheck consistently oneshoted me even not enraged... I can't forever dodge it without evasion skills, sooner or later it tags me, or the tail spin which does 60% or so, etc. The defense isn't the best, as I'm using the set that gives razor sharp + att small + weakness exploit, but it's still 170-something, I doubt an extra 30-40 will do much better. I guess that the fight gets trivial with 400+ defense and weapons in the 200 range of raw, but with LR gear is a formidable challenge. I'll try it again when I have slightly better gear, enough to not make it too easy, but at least within my skill range.

Just got the game last week. Haven't played any multiplayer yet, but almost done with village quests. Just want to complete a few weapons/upgrades, then tackle the S. Magala quest that I unlocked today. Not sure if I'll fuck with the 4 monster quest right now, but I have several days off next week so I plan on hitting MP pretty hard.

Edit: Also running CB exclusively. 4U was the first game that I didn't use every weapon at least to the point of being proficient with it, but in that and this I've been using the fuck out of CB. It's just so much fun.

CB got nerfed to absolute shit compared to what it was in 4U, but that really just brought it in line with everything else.

It's been fine for me so far. I may branch out a bit, in the past I've favored all of the melee weapons other than GL and HH at one point or another (I got OK with HH, just got annoyed at having to remember the notes from one horn to another), so picking them back up shouldn't be too bad. SnS seems like it could be fun now, and I only played with SA in one of the games, but it was fun, might craft a few and play with those.

Don't get my wrong, it's still a good weapon and one of my preferred options for Generations (GS, SA, CB, and Bow are my most used weapons), but it's not what it once was.

BUT, what it was was absolutely fucking broken. Sword mode got very slightly buffed compared to 4U, but everything in axe mode got a pretty serious motion value nerf, some moves even dropping to half of their previous damage.

Finished Aslat Charger and Axela upgrade and slaughtered S Magala. I think I'm pretty much ready to tackle the GH. Aslat Charger seems strong enough to even solo myself to high rank if I need to. Been rocking the Astalos set gemmed up to negate stun and with some other shitty skill that came +10 on a socketed talisman. It honestly seems better than even the S Magala set, because I can't craft the Handicraft decorations to finish out the sharpness skill on that set yet.

Said fuck it and went for the Fated Four quest. Just did it in my normal kit, potions, hot/cold drinks, food and pickaxes/bugnets. It was surprisingly easy, never seen a "final" village quest so simple in any previous games.
