You mean taking cues from III/V/Tactics too right?

Honestly one of my biggest issues with glamour in XIV, aside from the system being terrible and overly contrived as a whole, is the fact that my PLD and WAR can't look different unless I glamour one the way I want and then look like Homie the Clown on the second one because the job specific armor I want to use on the first can't carry over. Saving glamour to individual pieces of gear in a game where you can play multiple classes per character and some of those classes share gear is ridiculous.

Give us a second armory gear set menu specifically for glamours, a Wardrobe if you will, and let us save glamour costumes to that and switch to them at will as long as it's the corresponding type of armor for that job; can just do a normal gear job check. XI's system would be another step up from this, but PvPers would whine so that will never happen.

I'm speaking within the framework of the MMO sphere. I'm sure there are many single-player RPGs with similar mechanics.

The first is from FFIII. The second is from FFV. I'll give you a half a point for that, though, since its technically not incorrect.

Not really. I just wanted you to answer why no one's using XI ideas if they were so groundbreakingly amazingly awesome. You, as well as others, have answered that, so I'm satisfied.

Here's where we differ. You seem to think its going to fail if it doesn't do what you want it to do. I don't. I don't think its going to fail at all, because there's going to be enough people playing it to keep it as a P2P model for the next few years. Will it be as big of a success as XI? That depends on what category you're scoring. Its already accomplished a higher sub count. It has a long, LONG way to go to reach profitibility or length, but to be honest, I don't see any modern MMO lasting as long as XI/WoW, at least not in their current forms. Our generation that was a bunch of young teenagers playing these games isn't the same as today's young teenager.

I'm not going to go down the road of viewing a game that has a system or number of systems that I don't agree with as a failure, or claim that its on a doomsday route simply because I don't like them. Even if it did, so what? How many games come out every year that we were wholly disappointed in for X or Y reason? As much as I'd like to see ARR around for a number of years, I'm not about to make the illogical jump to demanding that my favored systems be in the game with the alternative being proclaiming the death/failure of the game.

Its annoying and juvenile, and people should know better. Its not rooted in any sort of logic whatsoever, as every WoW clone that failed was either plagued and hamstrung by shitty direction/management, crippled with bugs or lacking the star brand recognition that ARR has.

Like it or not, its not going anywhere anytime soon.

I assume he means because you wouldn't be able to instantly tell what job a person is because everyone could just be running around in Bikinis or whatever the fuck. Though I thought glamours were already disabled for PVP in XIV anyway unless they changed that.

PvP originally disabled glamour, however, that is no longer the case.

glam doesn't matter for pvp anymore since each player's job shows as their name

As I have said many times, I think ARR's success/failure has relatively little to do with the design decisions (given a baseline competent game, unlike retail 1.0) and more to do with the fact that there is no credible competitor in the console space. Being first-to-the-post with a competent console MMO will prove to be XIV's golden goose, just as it was for XI.

So most of these decisions don't really matter either way; they could listen to all of my suggestions, all of your suggestions, or anywhere in between and still likely get the same outcome (which is why I don't like the appeal to market results argument).

To put it in perspective: had SE initially released a 1.23-equivalent in September 2010 for PC and PS3, I think the game would have done approximately as well as ARR did. That's not to say that 1.23 was as good of a game as 2.0, but without the stench of 1.0's failure attached, it wouldn't have needed to be.

God forbid they just add a client-side option to disable glamors anyways.

Still waiting on the option to disable weapon/gear glows that they mentioned over a year ago

That said, you already got tanks running around in god damn wedding gear (who are typically terrible players going by DF), what difference would it make if you could mix'n'match job shit in terms of job identity?

I like my RDM/RUN mix in XI, although XI's setup still doesn't mean you can simply toss gear, as you need them still to register to the gearset, rather than a sane wardrobe system which has its own bit-flags. If I could slap some ALC gear on my XIV SCH that'd be dandy.

You may need to hold onto gear in XI but it also has much, much more extensive storage options (porter moogles).

Also I know you can send a lot of ra/ex stuff between characters on the same account now, in XIV you can't even Flist characters on the same account to send normal items (unless you did it when it was still possible before they "fixed" it).

I don't even pay attention to the bikini/invisible/wedding dress players anymore because they're the shittiest ones 99% of the time and always dead or "afk" at the boss barrier.

Pulling before a tank, or getting aggro = grounds for a vote kick, no matter how slow the tank is, or how bad they are (like taking 10sec to mark 3 mobs and can only hold aggro on 1 mob) because your destroying their ... "enjoyment" of the game or "immersion" or some nonsense >.>

Auto following a ranged dps in a 4man as a sch and afking for nearly the entire dungeon run? get commendations. Get aggro with eos? probably get kicked. Recommend pulling 2 groups of mobs instead of 1 at a time with a 2X blm or 1brd+1blm setup? Grounds for a kick
