Been running through NG+ and I've been having more trouble than I thought I would, not with the bosses but with the regular mobs. I did NG with a dark sword and it was literally easy mode, I'm using a UGS now and I basically take one or more hits off of almost everything because UGS are so slow plus, with no poise it's extremely annoying to fight fast hitting mobs (I've died to fucking rats/dogs because I couldn't get an attack off while I was cornered) or endless stamina ones (cathedral knights do 5+ swings sometimes, so you have to wait till they stop to attack).

I'm tempted to just say fuck it and get a fast weapon again, Hyper armor doesn't kick in till you're halfway through the animation.

Fucks sake I hate Pvp in this game. Pontiff fight club or ganks only. I just want to genuinely invade a regular human being progressing through a level. And maybe get some covenant items, because red and purple don't get that in fight clubs for whatever stupid reason.

Of course I assume 90% of people doing "progression" do it unembered like I did my first playthrough.

Really, great single player / co-op experience but pvp is flawed in so many ways. Hit detection is awful too, at least in my experience.

Trying to beat the dancer in NG+ with a UGS is just... stupid, I died 5 times just one hit away from killing her because this game is fucking broken and has no poise, I just can't get close and swing my ultra slow sword when she's all berserk without insta-dying in a combo, this right here's why most of the playerbase is just playing the game with a straight swords, and From still refuses to activate poise.

EDIT: killed her, apparently there's a spot where she just whiffs over your head and can you swing away happily all your stamina, oh well.

And about invasions, I've given up on them from both directions, I've been running NG+ embered all the time and I've barely been invaded (3 farron, 2 aldritch and 2 regular invasions) The game prioritizes people with phantoms so much that it means if you invade you're placed in a world with phantoms, and if you want to be invaded you better get phantoms out or they aren't invading you. I like the rush of being invaded or be the invader myself, but as things are, it's not going to have a lasting appeal, you either do FCs or get ganked.

I've been doing my 2nd run embered, and have seen a fair number of invasions.

Last night a Red popped in on me in Smouldering Lake, saw me, and ran away from me and straight under the giant worm creature. Why even bother invading if you're just going to do stupid shit like that?

Seed of a Tree of Giants, and he died instantly.

What's with the influx of people chugging away in FCs? I've been doing a few this evening and I've encountered more today than all the ones I've been in combined.

Especially the hosts, I'm Black Crystaling out If you just run away and chug everytime you're low on health man.

I'd assume it's due to the large amount of new players/filthy casuals that are playing the series for the first time.

I've done this on many occasions, and give zero fucks about doing it. Some people, myself included, simply don't want to deal with PVP when their focus is on PVE. I'm of the mindset that if someone wants to intentionally ruin my time by invading, I'm not going to give them the satisfaction of it at my expense.

in DS1 i just played offline, myself. didn't realize how helpful all the online messages were though till i did DS3. in this game i was less chicken about people invading because i felt more comfortable overall. didn't consider any offline options.

either way if you were terribad like me, the last thing you care about is being good enough to fend off invaders when you just wanna explore shit. i don't really hate on people if they wanna do whatever they need to keep it non-hostile.

This is what I don't understand, I ran part of my first run unembered because I hadn't played a souls game since DS1 and wanted to get the hang of it before I start getting invaded or invade myself. if you dislike PVP so much, why not save your and the invaders time and just play unembered?

And IIRC, can't you end up with some kind of online restriction if you alt-f4 all the time?

Being invaded is the most fun, but surprisingly there's hardly any reward for killing phantoms (even the souls you get from them are crappy) aside from occasionally murdering purples. Still, bitching out from an invasion is annoying when it can take ages to get summoned for certain covenants.

There's a setting in the options menu somewhere to play offline specifically (I assume) to avoid invasions, plus you can always go unembered.

It seems silly to me to alt+F4 all the time if you don't like being invaded. I play SL1 most of the time and I wish for more invasions from time to time (I need those embers!).

getting invaded is just part of this game and there's a clear option on how to not get invaded... go unembered. The HP boost from being embered isn't that game-changing.

Also, if you're afraid of dying... I would think Dark Souls isn't really the game for you.

Seriously. I know I am preaching to the choir but dying in Dark Souls is usually a learning experience more than anything. People need to learn to get over themselves and just enjoy the damn ride.

My first run through I'd go as far as I could while embered and then once I died/got invaded and died I'd stay unemebered until the next boss. It wasn't that bad for the most part.
