Yeah, lore wise there didn't seem to be much. The only thing I found interesting was finding out Pontif Sulyvhan was born and raised inside the painting.

Did you watch VaatiVidya's videos yet? Cause there is a lot of potential in this dlc if they expand on it a bit with the next one. The final boss was epic enough for me to forgive the shortness of it, though I think in terms of actual size of the areas it's comparable to Artorias, though a lot more open space and less densely populated. I did really appreciate that it emulated the first part of Dark Souls 1 with the philosophy of "if you can see it, you can go there".
To me, it looks like we get some more Londor stuff, big mama pale bat demon, Gertrude(?), a recently born dragon (?), DS2 swamp windmill, Darklurker(?)
The Darklurker looking thing is most interesting, since it was one of the more notable bosses (and fun) from DS2. Feel like it's an offshoot of the thing attached to Dragonslayer Armour, since they are barely mentioned.
Lightning bow (miracle?) looks cool but still no hope for decent magic. The magic flip sword looks cool as well, but the weapons from Ashes were overall good so I'm not worried there.
Vaati's apparently played the new dlc and has done a video on it. I'm not watching it yet.
Seems waaay too early for that kind of thing.
Isn't the DLC a month out still? I dunno why he'd release a video since lore vids are only good after experiencing shit yourself and spoiling the run even until the first boss (of potentially 3, so basically 1/3rd of the DLC I imagine).
I bet some youtubers are gonna get early access, what a dumb move. No one who cares about Dark Souls is likely to watch someone else play it first.
Well, he's less likely to have stolen someone else's work this way at least.

Kinda off-topic, but something that seems fun to do in DS2. Saw this posted in my Facebook page from Dark Souls official.
Spoiler: show
spoilered for sorta big.
edit: reposted in DS2 thread as well.
Two new Undead Match arenas, Dragon Ruins and Grand Roof, coming with The Ringed City
Ringed City will out for Steam in NA at the top of the hour.
Can be accessed from either Kiln of the First Flame or at the final boss bonfire from Ashes.
If you're jumping back in and haven't been following the patches, as far as I can tell the current meta is Exile Greatsword followed by more Exile Greatsword
Irithyll Straight Sword is pretty freakin' great now that Frost procs way faster.
Curved Greatswords got buffed, and Exile Greatsword more then the others by proxy. At 66 STR/Heavy Infusion it has 693 AP
Quality Builds kinda got nerfed as well, tho if you're not desperately min-maxing still worth it for access to as many weapons as possible.
shit, i started a NG+ cycle after finishing ashes and didn't get very far before getting distracted with other stuff. i guess this means i'll have to finish the current cycle to get access to the new DLC?
Gotta either beat Ashes or get all the Cinders of Lords
Oh man, you can get a Ring of Steel Protection +3 like 5 minutes in even on NG, fuck yo NG+
These angels are so fucking scary, holy shit!
Yeah the angels fucking suck ass. Also found a Ring of Favor+3 a little farther in. The ring drops in this are the fucking truth lol
Welp the first boss is outright bullshit. I lucked out in beating it because of a lucky pattern, playing with my faith build character with lightning exile greatsword and lightning astora greatsword, since my dex build started ng+2, my i'll use my pve character who's lvl i don't care about after i finish this, i'll just say, so far this is already better than the first dlc.
