alot of the fps threads were fat people who disliked proud fatties in my experience.
Also EMT nightmare stories of fatties they had to cut walls out of homes just to get out and had flesh merged with beds or couches...

I love reddit, I really do. I love politics, worldnews, disaster real time information, cat pictures, gifs, hometown subreddits, etc. etc. etc. And this is hilarious. Just more hilarity that I go to reddit for. It's so much fun. I did like fatpeoplehate, I do admit. But hey. this shit is good, too. Got my grinder, made some money, had yummy food and reddit drama- Today was a good day.
let's be real here... FPH was a vicious and caustic subreddit. you have to be a really fucked up, insecure, and shitty person to be a "fan" of it. I have a pretty wrong sense of humor and was disgusted at the level of judgement and vitriol that went on there. I don't think free speech is an issue here... however, there is a massive amount of hypocrisy at play that undermines the spirit of what the reddit community is built on.
the backlash, while hilariously juvenile, is a completely rational reaction to the SJW influence on reddit which has taken place in the form of an increasing amount of censorship.
there's no right or wrong, good or bad, just a bunch of angry, bitter people fighting over some hyper-inflated moral ground. that my friends, is entertainment.
So reddit has been having problems trimming the fat?
Just because it's a terrible shit-show which only spews vitriol does not mean it's not a free speech issue. The test of free speech is not the cutesy story about the grade-schooler whose blog about school lunches was censored by the school, but the willingness to stand by the terrible shit-shows which you don't agree with and are hard to put up with.
Absolute free speech is as terrible a thing as absolute Democracy-- libel, slander, yelling "Fire" in a crowded theater... we have limits, because we have competing values, and putting free speech impossibly high is dangerous. With THAT said (and I am no Redditer, so correct me if I'm mistaken), in this case, you have people in a clearly labeled, set-aside group who have a caustic idea. They aren't invading other people's space and forcing hate on them-- anyone getting hated on had to go to a specific sub forum, clearly labeled, and find the abuse.
Some Jets fan said they were going further on the subreddit, and posting personal information-- that is, actively impacting the lives of others; this is no bueno. If the Jets fan is mistaken, as Jets fans often are, then yeah. If you're advocating free speech, this seems to meet the criteria most conservatives and most liberals could agree to: it's sequestered, it's voluntarily reached, it's not deceptively labeled. If you're pissed, don't read it. It's not hard. If, on the other hand, the Jets fan is right-- and I have not seen locusts nor frogs descending en masse from the sky-- then this is a "your free speech ends at my right to privacy" issue... which IS an issue, but I think it's one more people are comfortable saying, "Enh, no. No more posting for you."
But... that seems more like an excuse in this case, even if it is true, than motivation.
Yes, we need limits on free speech when it comes to things like yelling fire in a crowded theater, but not when it's censorship because we disagree with the message being espoused. For instance, I think almost everyone here will agree that everything that the Westboro Baptist Church is terrible vitriol that really has no place in society. However, whereas the government has (mostly) stood by free speech and allowed them to continue spilling their filth, reddit chose censorship.
Caveat being, like you, I don't frequent reddit outside of like three boards, so I had no idea about any of this.
This is a very weird ban to do. If it's based on content, then why are super racist/sexist/violent/extremely fucked up subs still around. If it's based on behavior/brigading then why is stuff like SRS still around.
This has nothing to do with the First Amendment.
Freedom of Speech just means the government can't pass laws limiting what we say. Reddit is a private company and can do as they wish. They also have a responsibility to make it as profitable as possible for their owner. This may be a dick move to many of their users, but it is a move that will reassure their advertisers.Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
I've been on Reddit for years, and never heard of those subs before yesterday. Personally I feel if you don't like certain content you can easily avoid it. But Reddit is a business and they have to make decisions that they believe will best impact the bottom line.
What they're doing isn't against constitutional free speech no, but they are a company that has built themselves up as a community for sharing ideas of all kinds; even kinds that most people would find distasteful or downright wrong. When they cherry pick certain subs to remove while leaving in place some of the worst places on reddit, you have to question their motives and the decisions of leadership. The hate they're getting right now is justified, even if it isn't technically "wrong".
It wouldn't be so bad if it was thrown in your face all the time, but it's not. Reddit makes it so easy to ignore things you don't want to see, and if you do see it it's because you went out of your way to find it.
Right, there's the Constitutionally guaranteed free speech, but there is also the ideal of free speech -- one which places like Reddit have been built upon.
but muh fee fees
PS, I had no idea how huge of a femcunt the ceo was until reading everything shes been up to.. how the hell did she become the reddit ceo, shit.
Apparently neogafinaction was just banned, which had no relation to neofag.
Not banning based on content my ass. This screams of advertiser interference and isnt something that goes over well for websites.
At lteast when we ban content here for outside purposes were told why.
Yeah, obviously it's well within reddit's rights to do whatever they want with their website. The shitshow of doing something illegal publicly would be unprecedented
This is about a change in the mission statement going "Our site's goal is to be a free speech platform"(paraphrased) to now with crazed feminazi's ellen pao's "it's not our site's goal to be a completely free speech platform"(not paraphrased)
Up until now I didn't even know how HUGE reddit was (170m unique monthly users wtf) and this is totally hilarious to see unfold. The amount of retarded between Ellen Pao and her husband is beyond critical levels imo. There are a few subreddits now devoted to shitting on her, I can't find the one I was at yesterday but ELLENPAEINACTION is killin' it. It's a cacophony of her failures as a feminist, business woman, plaintiff, and general person. Check out this quote she had to say about herself in a BBC interview a few weeks ago:
I'm so glad this happened. I don't feel at all like a bad person for enjoying this so much. This is better than that emma gal crying out rape and then doing a sex tape showcasing she doesn't know wtf rape is
I didn't plan on becoming a symbol. It was more telling my story
I had a hard time getting a job. It's out there - I'm not that likeable and I'm a poor performer. There were people who wouldn't talk to me.
There were people who were nervous to be seen with me. You have to have a lot of conviction you were right… and a lot of toughness to weather through the personal attacks.
Edit: yeah, people have been all over this. She and her husband are in a big financial bind due to legal fees for his ponzi scheming and her general ineptitude so people've been talking about this just being some huge money grab before peacing out and leaving reddit in shambles (like digg did to itself IN THE EXACT SAME WAY - getting so much venture capital involved they began changing shit and costing the website it's entire userbase - many years ago)
This is the wikipedia article on Ellen Page's lawsuit vs Perkins (Perkins won):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pao_v._Kleiner_Perkins
I remember when the news broke on this, it was the talk of the town and only initiated the uprising of more sexual discrimination lawsuits in favor of women in Silicon Valley.
Reddit is just another forum based website where anonymity in exceptionally large numbers rears it's ugly head. The CEO and her crew will opt out of micromanaging the problem and instead use the more draconian form of banning the entire Reddit thread(s) they dislike for a lack of an easier option. The best way to stop bulling in her case is to set into motion a method of removing the anonymity within Reddit itself. It's not the easy or less beaten path either, as Google/Youtube has tried for years and has failed every time.
Another option is to simply integrate an option that brings up a disclaimer to the reader that "/r/<subreddit forum> is a potentially offensive forum. Do you want to enter? Y/N." This maintains anonymity at the least. People are god damn retarded and will go out of their way searching for shit that they know will offend them, however. Goes back up to the Tyler the Creator Tweet above.
Here's better than the wiki page, the original Perkins Brief: Highlights Ellen's horrible track record of causing drama/playing the victim while making legal mistakes and idiocies (harvard trained!) and being described in this legal document as having no street smarts
