I like the anniversary stuff they do as a nod, but it's a shame they still refuse to release info/show anything.
That pic they released of Seph over Midgar, they deployed Seph way too early. There was absolutely no need for it other than to cocktease all the seph fanboys. There was also no need to show him in that form. It would've been better for them to create a shroud of mystery around the other chars, especially seph (a bit like the Advent Children trailers).
I always thought the Seph one winged angel thing is overdone. Considering in the original game it only ever happens as the final boss.
But you gotta keep this in mind. This isn't a new game. Everything about this is going to be fanservice.
Pretty good rant at the beginning of this about the 30th Anniversary letdown.
Which furthers why it's so silly they don't want to give info/show anything lol. I can understand because they know some things they probably had planned won't go over well..but the fact there's more "omg yay /jizz" over ONE IMAGE than there are disappointed people from what I can see...they don't have to say much. I think the main thing people want to know is how the episodes will work more than anything, because it's very unlikely each "episodes will be as big as a full game" since SE has a lot of codespeak that people fall for.
For all we know one episode could be 20-37gb which is about the size of a standard game these days and that's what they mean (it's SE, they literally could mean that.) lol.
I'm all for the 'one winged angel' thing but it furthers the point of how badly told VII's initial story was, but incorporating elements from all the prequel/"concurrent" games into the main VII game could be good.
I like that Cloud is jacked in the picture vs the initial trailer where he would still be sickly due to Mako poisoning or w/e. It'll be interesting to see how they work it into the story of him recovering from it.
Mad blowies from Yuffie and Tifa. Duh.
Ah what I meant was, while we all know what most things would look like, I was more on the lines of them slightly putting some mystery or hints (either screenshot or trailer like) on what's to come. So if you think back to the initial reveal trailer, it was just Cloud and Barret walking through what looks to be a sector/town within Midgar, but their faces/features were clearly not shown from the front; then later we got a second trailer which fully shown how they look. Them slapping Seph out like that sort of ruins the anticipation.
Back when they mentioned the remake and what expectations are to be of it, I forget the exact quote but I believe they already said they will be factoring in all the modern elements from the compilation into this game. Not sure if this means Genesis/Angeal will make an appearance of some form though.
If Angeal and Genesis show up in some form it'll be through text or as secret bosses somewhere. Angeal is dead in FF7 and Genesis is also temporarily out. And before anyone mentions the flashback sequence let's not forget that Cloud is the narrator and I'm pretty sure he never met Genesis there. Heck we only know he was in the area because CC showed a cutscene of him talking to Sephiroth, even Zack wasn't present.
Maybe we'll get more for Zack? Maybe they'll put some sequences from CC in the game? But yeah, that's pretty much it. Anything else happens after the events of this game although I could see maybe some outfits and attacks as unlockable bonuses or DLC.
Or
The lifestream, feasting on the memories of Aerith and Zack after their deaths, manifest past memories as real life beings near pockets of concentrated mako such as Midgar, the natural materia near Mt. Nibel, and the reactors producing large materia as a guardian like Gi Nattak.
The potential for shitshow levels of soap opera dumbassery versus calm, cool, and calculated narrative mindfuckery are equally high.
didn't genesis show up in the secret scene at the end of Dirge of Cerberus? is that considered canon? If so he should be around
actual Angeal and Genesis wont show up in FF7 because as people have mentioned they're both not around during that time. However, there may be a possibility to have visions or shadows of the past appear via mako or cloud having fragments of his actual memory still present..? I dont think Cloud has actually met either Genesis or Angeal tho.
another way of introducing them is simply to have relevant NPCs namedrop them here and there..
Oh no I don't know any of these people do I need to play Crisis Core?
If you want to know who they are, yea.
But they're not all that interesting, and they had virtually no effect on the events of FF7 proper.
They just kinda needed to make characters so Crisis Core had a story beyond the few already known events that happened prior to FF7.
