Will either go the route of FFVII-4 (AC and DoC are 2/3 in essence) or they'll scrap it and make it into FF16......
I feel like someone needs to reuse the "sonic development cycle" meme and make it about FF.

/sigh
If SE were a person, they'd be my boss. Borderline insane visions of grandeur supplemented by useless fluff no one ever asked for that just causes more work and delays and is a pain for everyone involved. All for the purpose of looking good.

Just think.
There were (or still are) people who think this will go well or as planned.
Bless their heart.
Inb4 it was never planned to be anything FF7 related, and it was just a marketing stunt
If you think this won't end up with a movie trilogy, a mobile/tablet candy crush type game, a FF TCG expansion, a line of Louis Vitton handbags as Lightning is retconned into being the progenitor of the Ancients, Shinra branded cola drinks, and a group of brand ambassadors modeled after the Turks all before the first (of 6) installments hits in 2021 right before KH 3.985 4k Remix - PS6 Preorder Edition...then I have a FF7 remake to sell you tomorrow.
If they do this and make it no longer episodic then sure whatever do it, but if they continue to go forward with it being episodic then idk why they would even bother shifting the image of what they want to do with the title. Episodic seems like a good way to set this thing up for failure honestly.
To be fair they've been saying that since they announced the thing. It's probably worth repeating in the light of Crash, Spyro, Shadow of the Colossus and Medievil getting 1:1 remakes that this project is different and is a new take on FFVII. Feel free to panic though![]()
Updating design element vs retelling and recrafting the game are two very different things.
Updating: Long Range materia doesn't quite work in a KH style combat system. With size no longer being an issue, game skips like how/why the party ends up in Gongaga or the dummied content from Midgar re-entry can be better explained.
Recreating: Cloud is now technically Sephiroth's half brother, sharing Lucretia as a mother. Cloud's "mother" is a former Turk on assignment. Marlene has a debilitating handicap and Dyne just didn't want to deal with it. Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie never die in the Sector 7 collapse. Bugenhagen is the lifestream. Aerith never dies.
Final Fantasy Versus 7.
You know that second option is not gonna happen. What they're going to do is include parts of the Compilation in some way or form into the game and expand on the original story. Whether that's a good thing or not is up to you but let's not get carried away now.
Preserve the existing concepts users hold while creating a new world view.
^This is why this news is infuriating and brings to mind FFv13 scenario all over again. All they had to do is simply update the graphics and BOOM! Profit!
But that's not good enough for SE! It has to instead be a grandiose, episodic ($$$), Remake that completely redesigns the combat system and makes each installment its own game.
But now THATS not good enough for SE! Now it has to be all that AND a redesigned story that retcons the entire FF7 story to make it more dramatic! More grandiose! Then what it was, doing to FF7 what they do to movie remakes.
Then when that fails, they'll pull another Versus XIII and convert this to FF16 and scrap the characters and story and try to make it original.
When all fans wanted was a simple graphics remake, a.k.a. FF7 HD.......
Maybe the new version will have a QTE instead
Press X for Aerith to Die
Press Square to save her
Press Circle to kill Cait Sith instead
That would be different
I don't see any retcons anywhere. What the fuck are you even talking about now?
Holy shit, Elcura and I agree.
Boy you done fucked up.
