Isn't this technically CC2's fault though? They were hired for a project and couldn't deliver. Sure, SE hired them but I wouldn't put all the blame on the company if this scenario turns out to be true. We're talking about FFVII here not a random indie-like project, they can't afford to release a subpar game in terms of quality or both the media and their fans will roast them. If CC2's work was deemed "unusable" it must've been pretty bad lol.
If its such an important project, why outsource it in the first place?
And it doesn't happen enough where I would call it a habit, but SE does have a track record going back to that FFXII Fortress project (and probably even earlier) of hiring a 3rd party to deal with remakes, remasters, or niche titles only to cancel it or bring it back in house after deeming the work not satisfactory. Even if its more circumstance and chance that this seems to happen with them, you would think their continued public complaints about the bloat and cost of their development cycles would lead them to ask "Maybe this would be cheaper if we didn't pay twice for it?"
SE should really take a cue from Nintendo and not announce any game that is more than 1 year from planned release if only so their fanbase isn't pelting them with questions during their now commonplace 4+ year cycle for major titles.
Well CC2 isn't a random company, they have delivered some quality games in the past and SE probably trusted them with this (while also allowing them to start on the project earlier) due to their experience with action RPGs. Fortress was shit honestly so I see no issue there (and all those stories around it sound like pure fan fiction to me but that's another topic entirely).
I also believe they had no choice but to announce the game when they did, it would've leaked anyway and at the time development was probably going smoothly and they were confident they would deliver it on time. Sure, there are rumors regarding these projects all the time but this would've been much more detailed than a generic "FFVIIR is being made". Maybe Sony pushed for it as well to have one of those E3 moments like they did with Shenmue 3.
What good games did CC2 make? The only shit I saw was anime fighters and Hyper Dimension, neither of which are amazing gameplay wise.

They even made the awsome FFVII Gbike game!
Yeah nothing about this news makes me sad, except maybe having chosen CC2 in the first place.
Well this is big if true.
Also worth noting, that now as they show Cloud, and going by earlier remarks and the use of the term "real-time", these are not concept art pictures of the characters, but real-time rendered screenshots.
Nomura says that this version of Cloud is probably the closest visually to capturing the personality of the original Cloud I.E to clarify this phrase that's been thrown about so often from the partial snippets we got a while back - Nomura is commenting on how the visual design reflects Cloud's persona, and they go on to say that visually, they've designed him in a way that captures the way Cloud was not a cool guy in the original game - how he was actually a f***up just putting on a strong front.
They say he looks "real/very very young" this time around, and contrasts him to the AC Cloud, implying a very drastic change from that.”
Never change, SE.They're adamant they're making "something we've never seen before’ and ask us to ‘be excited’.
Sadly, thats the issue.
Something we havn't seen?
WE gonna learn if Cloud wears a Gstring during the crossdress event?
Cloud and Sephiroth are going to come to terms with their repressed sexual frustrations towards one another.
This is what weebs want.
So based on the article..... Does that mean we get TeamFourStar's version of Cloud if he's a fuck up?![]()
I really hope so.
Cloud's always been a poser and likeable loser, it's the stuff that came out after that made people think he was a badass (and he kinda is at the end of 7) but before that he was a fucking waste.
Part poor translation and part graphics might be to blame overall though.
Uh, are we all forgetting how when we see what really happened, Cloud went nuts and defeated Sephiroth single-handedly? After he killed Zack and the rest of the Shinra troops, he impaled Cloud on the Masamune and was about to go after Tifa, but Cloud fucking lifted him up FROM THE SWORD THAT HE WAS CURRENTLY IMPALED ON and hurled him right the fuck off the screen. He might have been pretending to be socially cool, but he was still a tough as hell badass.
