Only 8 years from the announcement. Square is getting better. Maybe by FFXX we'll be down to a 3 year development cycle.

Well, 2023 would certainly imply a PS5, maybe a very early PS6. I was just being snarky, otherwise.

Yeah I like going through console generations like ass wipe as well because they're incapable of keeping up with PC hardware. Squandering your developers and pushing them as hard as you can to optimize for specific hardware and then changing it on them every few years only hurts development cycles.

If they do intend a 2023 release then I imagine they have their hands on a PS5 devkit which are apparently out in the wild.

Consoles evolving isn't the problem, as you can pretty much see them as a standardized system requirement for video game programs. The problem is having 3 major companies putting out consoles before factoring PCs themselves, with ports inviting their own hosts of issues and budget hoovering. I still aspire for one day of console uniformity, but I don't ever see it happening as long as greed takes precedent over putting out good games.
