Yeah, I pulled off the lightning jump mini game on the PS3 remake. Shit was annoying but doable.

Can we stop bringing up Persona and Octopath as examples? I honestly doubt SE is expecting to sell 1-3 million lifetime for FFVIIR....
DQ11 is at what.... 4 million? And 3 of those are in Japan alone.
Turn based games don't sell millions anymore, that's why SE is not going back to that with FFVIIR but they do with low budget games.
Persona is an outlier because you definitely can't do a turn based RPG without the pure style Persona 5 has. Even Persona 3 and 4 can't compare, it's that good and it literally does nothing special aside from amazing presentation. Turn based RPGs are fine, but you can't do it literally the same way it was done 10/15 years ago because who gives a shit?
FFX-2 would like a word.
Nvm
Turn based games are fine but they're not big sellers, SE will not settle for 3-4m sales for FFVIIR. That would be a huge flop in every possible way.
FFXV sold more than 8m copies worldwide despite all the controversy and opinions floating around... that's double the amount DQ11 did and that's the best selling turn based RPG I can think of in this entire generation.
I'm just glad it's not FFXV's battle system. Just go full action (KH/Nier Automata) if you're gonna try something like that.
I know it's the cool thing to hate FFVII, but it's always been one of my top favorites, so I'm sure I'll love this. Even with the episodic crap.
Turn based might lose you meta critic rating but I dont really see it being a huge sales factor either way.

People don't buy FF for it's gameplay, they buy it cause it's FF. That's the argument.

Yet it is somehow the highest grossing FF by far?

Exactly, the gameplay pushed people off. It was a combination of awful combat system and piss poor performance. Being an MMO is also gameplay related, some don't like that so they don't buy it (like people not liking turn based wouldn't buy a new game with that).
It's the perfect example of people not buying/supporting a game because it's "Final Fantasy" so that argument is severely flawed. When they fixed the gameplay related issues it became a hit.
It was so bad that the company had to apologize and try to restore faith in the franchise.
When you can continuously make money off of someone month after month after they already paid to buy the game, of course it's gonna gross more than another FF that can only get your money once. FFXI was the previous highest grossing FF for the same reason.
XIV 1.0 was a hot mess of server lag and constant disconnects which made the experience dreadful. Word of mouth completely halted the game's growth within days so naturally the smaller pool of FF fans that played MMOs dropped the game or just didn't move on from FFXI.
yeah but ffxi was good tho
