Naturally I can't disagree since I played it for years but I def didn't stick around solely for the gameplay.

The people who buy games solely based on gameplay are a minority to people who buy for graphics and brand pedigree.
I'm in your camp. I always watch many game play videos before making a purchase because I want to see what I'm playing and if it's my taste. Yes graphics play a role but brand plays no role in my buying decisions.
edit: To your point about Soulsborne, I'm struggling to play Demon's Souls even on PC at 2560x1440 because of how dreadful the graphics are. And I love DS 1-3 and BB.
As if FF7 would fail to sell regardless of what kind of paint job they slather on it. Let's get real. This game has one of the most diehard, hardheaded fandoms I've ever witnessed and they'll buy it just to see daddy Cloud fighting daddy Sephiroth in HD for the 500th time in media history.
It's obviously going to sell boatloads. And then I'm sure we'll be in the same situation where stupid people will sit around and say it sold that well because it wasn't turn based.
And if they botch it for some other dumb reason, say taking the episodic releases and cranking it to 11, we'll have stupid people saying it's not selling well because it's not turn based.
Not everyone is going to be happy with this. Just be happy we're getting a fresh experience of a pretty good game from many of our childhoods.
Well, let's just hope that 'fresh experience' won't leave a terrible taste in our mouths
That's what she said.
haha semen
Spoiler: show
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't have a problem with XIII. Yeah, it's not the strongest entry in the series but I still enjoyed the fuck out of playing it, even the linear bits. Hell, I played it twice and I'll probably play it a 3rd time at some point.
Per JP SE Press Release: Still Episodic Content

No, FFXIII is well liked, it's just also has the loudest haters because of "hallways!!!1"..yet same people saying XIII's hallways and 'mediocre story' are why its terrible are jacking off to FFXIV on a daily basis.
This is exactly why people say anything FF will sell, because there's honestly 0 reason to make it 'episodic' other than knowing they can milk FFVII nostalgia.
Both XIII and XIV are terrible.
Guys guys.
What if they are going to bamboozle us with the FFXV episode model. What if (unlikely, I know) on release it's going to be Episode 1, free, and then the rest of the episodes are like £7/each with the whole package being £60 or whatever the price is an AAA game is at on release
(So yes, all episodes will be available at launch)
I've never understood the linear vs non-linear argument for FF games. All FF games are linear almost by definition as you have to follow the main story, in predetermined order, to advance the game; it's kinda the JRPG way. They all ferry you from point A to point B with not much else to do until much later in most of their games. Non-linear would be something like Breath of the Wild, where you can play the game in any order you want, stop a section, do a different one, and come back later where you left off.
I mean the big issue is being railroaded down a singular path versus having separate playgrounds to experience. Its not like XIII was the first 'on rails' Final Fantasy even if its the one that gets 90%+ of the criticism for doing it that way.
As long as it doesn't end up 'episodic' like Sonic 4 did lmao.
