I was all in from the get go, but I'm quadruple all in now that Nomura told me to "please look forward to it" in regards to Cloud wearing a dress and keeping the goofy shit in the game.
Fuck yes. Original team. Keeping the goofy shit. All I have to do now is fall into a coma until the day before the game comes out, and pray the world hasn't blown itself apart by then.
Edit: Reference material if anyone hasn't seen it. From Neogaf:
Nomura, who was a character designer on the 1997 original, is clearly excited about the prospect. "The talks about making this remake, internally it's been mentioned on and off," he told Eurogamer's Aoife Wilson in the interview. "Sometimes we think we can do it, and then sometimes we think maybe we can't. Considering some of the original staff, like Kitase, he's acting as producer, and [Kazushige] Nojima, he's doing the script - we're all getting older! If we keep going like this, the thought occurred to us that we might have to pass this on to a younger generation, without the original developers taking part. It doesn't seem like such a grand intention, but we wanted to do it with the original members."
So why has it taken 'til now for it to happen - especially as it comes relatively soon after Square Enix disappointed fans by setting up a reveal last December before announcing the PC port of the original was coming to PlayStation 4?
"When we announced the HD port, the PC port on the PS4, we weren't sure when we wanted to announce the remake," Nomura said elsewhere in the interview. "The production was underway then, so there's no real connection between the timing of the two FF7s coming to PS4. We've announced several different titles coming to the PlayStation 4 like World of Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts 3."
The slow uptake of new consoles in Japan seems to be a concern, and Square Enix is making a concerted effort to make sure the PlayStation 4 is more attractive to the audience in its home country. "There's more and more titles being introduced for the platform, and we're hoping that announcing the remake of Final Fantasy 7, it'll give a boost to people wanting to buy this current generation of console. If we announced the remake after all those titles have been sold, it wouldn't have created such an impact, so that's why we decided on this timing. We wanted to reassure players that PlayStation 4 is coming out with great titles including Final Fantasy 7. That's why we decided to announce the remake."
How the new, slightly darker aesthetic sits with some of the crazier elements of the original game remains to be seen, but it seems there'll be intact. Can't wait to see the delicious sight of Cloud in a dress in glorious HD? "Please look forward to it," said Nomura as the interview came to a close.
i think they'd keep everything in as much as they can.. unless it gets in the way of the new visual style. i think Advent Children has shown some proof of how the game's style of humor translates to the CoFF7 visual style.. and it does work. they'll probably eliminate some scenes that might be unnecessary or not as realistic? I always though that climbing from Wall Market to the upper plate by jumping along junk didnt make much sense but that may just be me.
other things i think might do with different portrayals would be the g-bike sequences and the shinra lift scenes.. and anything involving escaping on plane or helicopters
one thing i do see this project opening up is the revisiting of CoFF7. It would make so much sense for them to re-release Advent Children as well as to remaster Crisis Core and even Dirge of Cerberus for the current gen of platforms to cash in on the FF7 hype train. Before Crisis could possibly finally see a stateside release.. and so on.
to put it in a very positive light, while cashing in on FF7 by remaking it is essentially milking the game's legacy, doing so would also serve to introduce FF7 to a whole new generation of gamers. And this is probably the best way to do it, without solely relying on nostalgia (Dissidia, FFRK, etc). Think of it as like the Star Wars movies. each trilogy was released to very different generations, and everyone will have their favourites, but all it does is create buzz and build on its fan base
I just realized that the crossdressing thing is the best time to sneak Lightning into the remake. She's supposed to be the female Cloud anyways right?
Aye, I think it'll work, check my post on http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/125...=1#post6450709 -- it'll work fine for sure if they want to go there.
Things I currently wish to experience in the remake:
Running up all 59 floors via the backdoor stairway in Shinra HQ
Busting in the front door of Shinra HQ and chasing all the employees around
Exploring Shinra HQ
Exploring Midgar where possible, Crisis Core style but a lot more immersive
I hope it's action based so people like you cry rivers of tears because you have to press more than 1 button every 10 seconds.
Also what do you think a remake is? It's remaking the game, that's exactly the same as re-imagining it...well, I guess it's 1 step before remaking it. There is literally no point to this if all they do is make the graphics prettier.
Finally, super lol @ most people would prefer turn based. Most people would prefer to have fun than to have their nostalgia dick stroked. ATB can work, but only if it's as good or better than X-2 (though even that speed would probably make you shit your pants).
Changing the battle system is the least offensive thing they could do to this game, even if it goes full action (which it probably won't, hybrid plz).
If they are to change elements in the game, either story wise or gameplay wise, instead of giving useless hype (SE is pretty good at that), they should've went with movies type and name it FF7 reboot instead![]()
Looking forward to Don Corneo love scene. Also, that point in the game Cloud falls into the lifestream and goes catatonic, that's going to be interesting to see again in HD... The Slapping contest on top of the Juno cannon while Emerald is attacking. Scenes with Hojo are going to be fucking Cash Money, love that guy.
If you want to play FF7 again with no changes, go play FF7 again? I never understood the idea that everything should be the same, but with an HD makeover.
The only things I want the same are the materia system as a core gameplay mechanic and the scope of the world. If they can deliver a FFXV-like environment in the FFVII universe, that would be absolutely great.
They should definitely change the script though, I don't want to know everything that's going to happen before it happens. Reading this [kotaku article] gives me hope that Nomura is making a brand new Final Fantasy, just with the core story/characters/mechanics of FFVII. That's what I've always wanted. TGS can't come soon enough... assuming that's when they'll show more.
I haven't played FFXV Demo yet (I really do want to) - but I would actually like to see similar world exploration in the FF7 Remake. Battle system, I think some sort of hybrid would work. A classic ATB/Turn-Based battle system for a AAA game like this would be a huge endeavor for SE, given the patience level of the current generation of gamers.
And I highly expect them to pull a FFX/FF13 sequel set for this game btw, so expect something like FF7-2 and FF7-3, w/e. I definitely wouldn't complain about that.
