I like ATB for the control, but action is more fun. Queue "why not both" taco girl.
I know you're being flippant but no. It's ATB with more features than the basic ATB. What else is it, ATB where you can move around with no random encounters, oh we're calling it ADB suddenly nothing applies even though it's practically the same? Action priorities, action queues etc, all the same. Nope? Nothing?
If you wanna take that path cool, but you know what I mean so being weird about it isn't helpful.
As long as I can control the inputs of everyone on the team, and as long as when the leader of the team dies everyone else doesn't magically give up I'll be perfectly fine with whatever the fuck they do.
Damn, if ya'll can shit up a glorious FF7 remake thread... you can shit up anything. Kudos.

Enjoy.
Is there an action RPG that lets you control all of the team? I don't think I've played many that do, unless I'm forgetting as I don't often. Usually they are AI controlled that you give certain orders to or some type of system they follow but no direct input. They would find it bizarre for people to take turns at such high graphics but what about how many characters in the game anyway? Do three people just fight and the rest magically vanish until you use them? lol
What about FFXII?
FFType-0. Perfect example of having a 3 person party, having 2 of them being AI controlled while controlling a third but being able to fluidly and easily jump between each party member.
Each one fights uniquely (weapon-wise) and each one can be customized with certain magic. Would have to tweak how materia works, but as far as action-RPG styles go, Type-0 has a fantastic combat system
Turned Based Combat...the Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship ATB. It's continuing mission: to employ boring, old gameplay. To keep out new life and new game play experiences. To boldly go where it's always gone before .....
I would very much like it if that Cloud and Tifa in the Lifestream bit wasn't a 30 minute coffee break of mashing the O button.
it would be great if its a 30 min advent children type of graphics tho
really wanna see tifa bounce in that tight shirt
I would also enjoy if the Nibelheim flashback scene could be sped up a little bit. I realize it has a very important place in the story, I just think it's placed in a horrible place. You just escaped Midgar, it's a whole new huge open world!...now sit here for the next hour locked in this flashback scene.
surprised no one put this up when they were posting remixes
An important element (note: not New Game+) here is replayability, and whether they'll go as far as this is an open question. I'll explain below:
One thing when I replayed FFVII over so many times is to ensure to have different characters for each portion of the game, as they all have lines they would say and actions they would do.
Cid for example, is one of the funniest characters with potential here and having him in the party was hilarious, and whether they carry it over to the game is a question.
- When the black materia is visible in the temple and you can climb down to retrieve it, Cid breaks out a fag and says: "I'm gonna have a smoke out here! Ahhh!! It's really something, having a smoke at a place like this."
- When you control the bit where you are about to kill Aerith, everyone shouts "Cloud!"/"Stop It!"/"What are you doing?" -- if you have Cid ... he will shout "Dumb #^%@!"
This montage... audio is optional, you only need to read the dialogue box:
The Kalm flashback should also be rather interesting, if they make it extra flashy.
In 1997, for much of the game until that point (assuming normal play), you were hitting for 300 damage tops, and using simple spells that annoy and burn people at best. Come Sephiroth hitting 3000+ damage per slash and throwing out magic like nothing.
The game further one ups his popularity by showing that, the much feared and should be avoided Midgar Zolem, can be felled by Sephiroth.
The same methodology here applies to FF8 and FF9 as well. FF10 eliminated that as you essentially either have everyone with you or a defined team with you, so if you replay it's to esssentially try out different Sphere Grid setups. Not sure about FF12, never played it.
FF13 restricted you forever until Grand Pulse, but then at that point if I remember correctly nothing of importance happens until you get to the plot-progressing area, so what your members think is really not an issue. Replayability there would be somewhat changing the Crystarium development of your characters to something you didn't do the first time with whatever you have access to on top of the restrictions.
FF13-2 restricted you to 2 characters and a Pokemon, so the only replaybility there is having a different [other/stuff you didn't use] Pokemon (I didn't play much, but if I presume correctly FF13-2's character development came Crystarium too).
Lightning Returns I've not played but from my understanding there's many ways to go around the game optimally, but replaying would only mean being optimal/trying out the costumes you didn't use the first time around (again, presumption).
for me ATB is largely tied to the original D&D roots of final fantasy. of course evolutions in making rpgs work in video games changed that, but all i ever needed to make turn based battles work was my imagination.
B-but action games!
Type-0 would be an awesome route to go.
Let's not forget every Tales game or Star Ocean or Ys, hell, could even go TWEWY, Ni No Kuni (not really, but I like that battle system a lot so it's going in), Xenoblade Chronicles and so on. So many options, so many.
a vii remake is a big deal because it opens up alot of possibilities, and also may open many cans of worms
you can bet on your house they will make a profit with vii remake, but this will then makes people ask for more remakes, which hinder new products, and also remakes might not be profitable
they somehow managed to wind this up 18 years before they decide to make it pretty much tells alot of story
Almost every "Tales of" in existence.
The combo at the section I'm linking here is done 100% manually.
