This might explain why so many of us are desensitized to death, cheers Square.

I actually felt nothing for Cait Sith, I mean I didn't like the character to begin with, but they clearly established that it was just a doll and that the real person controlling it was in Midgar...then they tried to make you feel some kind of sympathy when he was "sacrificing" himself? I was like..."uh...no?". Then the replacement Cait shows up literally moments later anyway.
and... I feel retarded for not even mentioning this:
I fucking loved this and the anxious heart theme a lot, the slums and Midgar was probably one of the coolest starting points in an RPG game period.
The best thing about FF7 was the scale. Midgar felt so grand that when you finally left the world was so much larger in comparison. The towns were tiny and felt nothing like a city.
I feel like later games really missed this aspect.
Dont forget how dyne shot the gold saucer up and killed a mass of people that gets you sent to jail.
The entire point of that scene was showing you that the dolls did in fact have some sort of sentience/persona of their own, even if Reeve was able to directly control them.
I do agree that it was a weird scene but the whole thing was still pretty depressing.
I personally hated cait sith. I would have played with reeve if i could have used him instead of that stupid ass doll.
Eh, Cait Sith's scene is mostly to cause the player to forget Reeve is controlling him. At that point we don't know if Reeve has another doll lined up.
It was more significant because it marked the point in the story where Reeve finally turned on Shinra. He sacrificed his ability to spy (symbolically) on the group in order to help them.
He could easily have been put to death for that, as leader of planning and development (meaning an executive on the board).
The "new" Cait Sith is supposed to represent his new start.
This was a major moment for me. I never played any Final Fantasy prior to VII at the time. We didn't have much money for games and i remember "experiencing" a small chunk FFIV by reading the guides in Nintendo Power over and over and over (I experienced a lot of games this way in my youth. I remember having dozens of levels in many RPG style games burned into my brain, and some I never got back to playing once we moved to newer generations).
When we got our PS1, a rented copy of FFVII was the FIRST game I ever played for that system (we traded in everything we owned at the store and had no extra money for a game ... or a memory card (LOL) ... We played the PS1 demo disc a LOT). I had no idea or expectation or idea there was an overworld and when that moment happened my brain exploded out the backside of my head and had to be scraped off the wall. I know that once the newer generation get their hands on the remake, even if it ends up leaving an impression on them, there's just no way people can have this reaction based on the size and length of games today.
Until it's revealed FFVII on PS4 is 3+ discs.
I imagine it will be episodic with minimal side questing.
Episode 1 - Reactor Nr. 8 $3.99
Episode 2 - Wall Market 3.99$
Yea no.
If they don't include the more iconic side stuff, I don't even want it . ultimate weapons and bosses gold chocobo, battle arena yes plz
Please for the love of god don't let SE come up with some stupid on release DLC that you pay for them to switch a Boolean from false to true to "unlock" it.
RMT Gold Saucer
It sure is.
I think it'd be cool if they made the Saucer games downloadable as side content.
This might be the one time I really believe that if SE screws this up they're buried.
