This just in. Athletes can't be soldiers. Film at XI.
I love when people who clearly haven't read anything properly get outraged and have to vent like it's the last thing they can do in this world.
I didn't say Blitzball was stupid, I said the lack of its inclusion in the latter half coupled with the fact that they based 2 characters around this sport is stupid.
But no no, what you said. Yep.
Oh no discussion on a forum don't engage guys, this isn't what we're here for.
it's.. an introduction method to two of the characters and also a starting point for the story..
usually in an RPG you don't stay in your main town the entire time either, does that also upset you?
i read everything you/other people said and based my post on that, not all of it was about you.
like you realize you counter yourself in this statement right? it's a fantasy game. no shit there will be "imaginary elements" sports included. it's a side-game that tons of people enjoyed and an interesting way to develop characters. but you're right, and you'll just keep posting trying to prove to everyone that you're right
It's called world building. Sometimes not every single aspect of the world has to be entirely relevant for the entirety of the game. But creating a richer, fuller world can enhance the playing experience.
Would you rather they forced you to play Blitzball throughout the entire game? It's an optional minigame to do on the side. They only force you to do it in the beginning because it's an introduction to the minigame, like they have with all other minigames in all other FF games. Triple Triad had a forced battle, as did the one in FFIX. Hell, even the minigames in FFVII were forced at one point and then becamse optional. None of them remain relevant throughout the entire game because they're optional. Blizball is the same way. It doesn't have to be relevant throughout the entire game to have an impact on the game - and Blitzball is very relevant. It's tied in to the entire Zanarkand and Yevon story and helps Tidus and the others learn the similarities and differences between his time and their time - and therefor also drives the storyline for the player. It serves a much larger purpose in the game than any other minigame does as it is a vital part of the plot - whether you choose to play it or not.
I mean, some people love it, others hate it. It'd be stupid to force players to play it.
Blitz is what anchors Tidus to Spira. It helps the group really relate to him at first and Wakka uses him to try to win the cup.
It's a side quest to the story of helping Yuna become the new guardian.
A quest which is derailed because of the larger story where Seymour, Auron, and even Sin are manipulating the field. Then they don't play unless you go and play.
It's not that complicated. Every game in the series has started off with characters on a mission who realize a greater evil is approaching.
In 7 it was Shinra then Sephiroth. In 8 it was Edea then Ultimacia.
In 10 it was Sin, then Seymour, then Yevon.
You act as though it's totally impossible to relate to a fantasy world where people want to escape their world's reality.
We have video games. They had Blitzball. Get over it.
That's kind of the point though. If it's going to be optional I dunno why it has relevance to the plot or characters. In and of itself I don't mind Blitzball, but if something like that is going to be a story (and character) point I'd at least like for them not to forget about it half way through.
FF7 is special in terms of mini-games, and even though they are forced there's a lot of variation and they're basically just set pieces done before shit like Uncharted made it all fancy. The rest were clearly side games that you could enjoy or ignore, and even though most have game related points to them (powering up, exploring etc) they didn't have anything to do with the story. Again FF7 is different because those mini-games were more like set pieces and that shit is cool, and generally that kind of mini-game is a nice gimmick. I'm not against mini-games or mandatory mini-games.
It's not anything like that at all.
You could only say that if I were bitching that Zanarkand wasn't where the game was based the whole way through, and while I was disappointed not to see that area for more than 5 minutes I got over it. Either way, my point is that if you're going to base characters and introduce them through anything (then give that anything depth, make it a thing) then at least keep it relevant. Otherwise it feels like a distraction that didn't really add anything to the game (unless you like Blitzball). I probably would've liked Blitzball more if they did something with it, but they didn't really.
It was just a hugely underwhelming concept
Don't get distracted by shit that doesn't matter (oh no double negatives). I'm not complaining that Blitzball is made up. It really doesn't matter what sport or activity they used. They could have used actual football and it would still be stupid.
And why do people think it's so important to seem right? I'm just saying what's on my mind vs what's on yours.
i was drawing a comparison since you were complaining that blitzball did not stay around to be relevant in the latter half of the game much like almost any element except the main antagonist(and generally they don't even reveal themselves until halfway through) in any RPG.. i thought that was relatively obvious or i would have spelled it out the first time.
pretty much i'm finding your argument that blitzball is stupid because it's relevance fades off to be a bit asinine since rarely do areas/antagonists/mini-games/side-stories remain relevant throughout the entirety of any game.
But Fort Condor!
Blitzball was fun.
I'm on the fence about the remake though, on one had I really want to play it, on the other I am not prepared for the next 18 years of the super fans claiming it to the the messiah of all that is RPG D:
Oh well![]()
They won't. The internet didn't exist when FF7 came out. I'm fairly sure the remake is gonna sell tons and still get a mixed reaction because everyone will complain about something missing or something put in they didn't like.
I disliked playing Blitzball but it's integral to the story for so many reasons: it anchors Tidus to Spira (kuronosan stated), Wakka to Tidus, Tidus to Jecht (also shadows and is CENTRAL to the story), the two timelines (survived a thousand years or more), and the world is united to compete and forget about the trouble of Sin.
I love watching people stream FFX on twitch their first time, the story is always the same: if they fuck up and don't get the Jecht Shot, RIP when they play the Luca Goers.
Shit was easy. Come at me, bro. 1v1.
Winning against the Al Bhed Psyches in the early game with the default roster. Now THAT shit was difficult. Goddamn Nimrook catching EVERYTHING. I have no idea how they managed to beat them in the storyline. Jassu must have had a fluke play.
