It probably just means...actually I really don't know what it means. I really hope they dont think they can get away with splitting up just FF7 into multiple episodes at 25-30 (or heaven forbid, 59.99) bucks a pop. I can see them turning to Dirge or Crisis Core remakes after the fact to try and re-focus the games mythology to get more of a return on the engine.

Sounds like then it'll:

1. Be broken down into bits from the main cast's perspectives (main chars, turks, sephiroth, aerith in lifestream as detailed in "the maiden who travels the planet")
or
2. To trim the fat off the game (i.e. after midgar we might more or less jump straight to jueno; after aerith dies we skip to the northern crater)

Yeah but I don't see it happening. FF7 is also on rails until the airship in disc 2 (Tiny Bronco really doesn't open up much except for Wutai) so I can see it happening. This would allow them to work only on certain areas of the world map and leave others for later episodes instead of having to create everything at once.

To me that reads as only getting the important/iconic parts like Walking Dead episode download format... So yeah "remake" not the whole game.

This can impact things negatively in multiple ways.

-Specific characters only available to play with during certain "chapters"
-Cutting the overworld out of the game
-Cutting side content and side dungeons from the game
-Limiting magic and abilities even further than they could have possibly been limited already

Im not even that big on 7. Its like my 4th or 5th favorite FF. But swinging back and forth between extreme opinions on day 2 of what will most assuredly be 700-1100 days or more before we can even play it just seems silly.

There will be a sum total of zero impact until the game is purchasable. People can have whatever opinions they want, write novel-length blog posts, make sweaty youtube videos about their anger and none of it will make one bit of difference until we can buy the game.

Fact is that it is a few years out. There is literally nothing to be gained from dissecting 3 sentences. Nothing of any value to anyone on this planet.

Except the majority is already assuming it'll be bad and see no possible way of this actually working out. People have been assuming that SE is cutting content for the remake since June.
Episodic could mean that or not, we won't know for sure until we get the game or more information.
Either way announcing this in a press release was stupid and should've been followed by some sort of explanation.

I already figured certain content would be cut out of the remake because it wouldn't be family friendly enough for the modern FF style, but I don't think anyone who wanted an FF7 remake thought "Hey you know what would be great? If they split the game up into multiple parts."
