I admit I'm a bit apprehensive about the multi-part for sure. Definitely something that's gonna cause a lot of initial stepping back and eye narrowing haha.
But I'm going to stay hopeful! Sometimes, when things like this happen it's always a lot worse than it actually is. When you actually get the game and play it, I feel like all those things that potentially would have brought it down get pushed over to the side, and you kind of forget why you got so worried in the first place?
My famous last words though.
When did they say that?keep in mind they said they planned on remaking other FF games.
A few days after the remake trailer at E3, the main guys on the development team were interviewed by a few places and they specifically mentioned 5 and 6 as very popular titles that they hear about, and how now that they're finally tackling a FF7 remake that the next titles that would be looked at for remakes were 5 and 6, because "they havn't seen some love in a while" or something to that effect while other titles like 1, 4, 7, 10 (and the implied 12) have.
Oh okay. I imagine those would probably get FFIV DS style remakes rather than a full FF7 treatment.
5 I can see getting the 3DS (or whatever the NX treatment may be) when that times comes, but I think SE knows the "fandom" is split between 6 and 7 being "ZOMG BESTEST GAME EVAR" and would give 6 the same form of treatment 7 is getting, just maybe not as pretty and glossy.
5 would have a lot of moving parts with job system outfits/animations for every character to be rendered at the FF7RM level imho. Much more plausible for a portable DS remake. 6, to me, would look really frickin cool with a FFT: War Of The Lions or Valkyria Chronicles look but on a console instead of a portable.
I also know I shouldn't expect anything of the sort until at least next generation. I'm going to wait and see how badly (or amazingly perfect) they do with this episodic take on FF7 before getting excited at a FF6 Remake Part 1 ending right after the Kefka fight at Narshe.
Edit: Double postan.
I'd prefer 5 and 6 got 4 treatment too actually.. tho maybe a little less chibi would be nice.
an interesting interview with much more info
That relieves some of my fears
Sounds like they are doing it so that they can do all of the things, not cut stuff out. And thats okay with me.Nomura: If we tried to stuff the whole game into one release, some part of the game would have to appear as digests. We'd have to remove some contents from the game, and it would be difficult to add more to the game. Considering that a full remake of the original game must be achived, we have decided to split the game into episodes.
I'm on board.Splitting the original version into episode with nothing dropped, as well as adding complements, and remaking the game the game in its full volume is what we are thinking.
Much better, I wish they would have just included that in their official article.
I feel better after reading that.
And for the people bitching its too actiony.
Theres still ATB. You can still control all party members.
Nomura: Regarding the speed of the combat, as well as the sensation of tempo, we have considered something alongside Dissidia FF that you can play without stress. The degree of action would feel like Dissidia FF > KH > FF7 Remake.
We are trying to make a new action combat system that definitely demand no action technique, and let you consider your strategy during the combat.
Nomura: Since the game is based on FF7, elements like ATB gauge and limitbreak will appear but with new useage. Please wait for our further announcements on how they would evolve.
Should've put that in the press release lol. Either way I'm totally fine with this and was exactly what I had in mind, this could become the best remake ever made.
Thats an important piece of information, man.
What is it with JP PR teams dropping the ball so badly recently? First Konami with Kojima's MGS5 award and now this.
From the article:
I don't get why you would want your main iconic figure to "look very sick", unless theyre going to play up his mako infusion and psyche issues a lot more before Mideel.-Cloud looking sick is partly due to the lighting. Nojima likes that Cloud looks very sick.
Oh god, there is so going to be a "Pick who dies: Tifa or Aeris" option.Kitase: We are not going to remake a game so you only play for nostalgia. We want to make the hearts of the original fans pump. We are adjusting the storyline with this idea in mind.
The press release was probably put out by some intern who has now been fired.
to the Cloud being sick thing.. the truth is.. he was very sick.
in fact, he's sick in every entry of Compilation of FF7 except Dirge of Cerberus, as well as at the beginning of Crisis Core. and I guess towards the end of FF7
so it would kinda make sense that they'd want to portray him as looking sickly.. because they're now able to do that.
That makes things sound better for sure.
I'm still curious about the details of how they're going to make this work. The amount of hype surrounding this is going to be nearly impossible to match. It's going to end up being either the greatest RPG ever or a complete trainwreck.
Also, as a cynical thought, I wonder if SE invested so much money into this that their only way to turn a profit without resorting to microtransactions is to split it up into multiple games.
it was huge back then and like has been said, it had to be split amongst multiple discs lol they're trying to do it proper justice so of course it's going to be even bigger with the kind of tech we have nowadays lol
Honestly, I wouldn't mind multiple discs or if when they say episodes, it's just like swapping discs but it's all one priced package. Or the episodes are all 15$ each and it adds up to 50 or something. A concern of mine is if it's going to be stupid ass timed releases like other episodic games. I hope they just release the whole thing in one swoop
