It's SE though. You're better off staying skeptical for your sanity - especially when it's the branch handling the FF games.

Game will be Made using Unreal Engine

A little quote down at the bottom which I don't see anywhere else or how they came up with the info:

The Remake itself is set to be a massive project, with each entry will have its own unique story. As a gaming experience, each entry will have the volume of content equal to a full-sized game.

Edit: Another story saying the same thing: Link

How are they gauging "full-sized" game? Are we talking Witcher 3 levels of content or the new Battlefront? That's a pretty open ended statement these days.

Each episode is about as big as a full game.. leads me to believe there won't be as many episodes as people think. 7 in today's game scale is big but not that big.
FF7 starts off slow and packed with events and then tapers out in terms of cutscenes as you go from town to town, so the majority of it really is in Midgar and disc 1.

I can see them splitting it into probably 3 episodes then..
maybe 1 - Midgar to Boat to Costa Del Sol would be a good first part, since Midgar is very chunky on story and the road leading to Junon introduces Sephiroth rather well.
2 - Costa Del Sol to Forgotten Capital - they go through a lot of towns in succession. alternatively, till Whirlwiind Maze.
3 - Gaea's Cliff till the end of the game, because disc 2 and 3 is actually a lot shorter than disc 1 in terms of story/cutscenes.

would be a nice touch since each episode is punctuated with a Jenova final boss, and is almost a reference to the 3 disc nature of the original FF7.

I'm gonna assume full game meaning 20-30+ hours. Doubt each episode would be witcher sized.

Just seems like an excuse to get more money out of people by forcing them to buy the game in bits and pieces, which because it's FF7 some are apparently willing to accept and even welcome it.

More like we have not enough information to even make an inference as to price / number of episodes / length of episodes so making statements like "they just want more money" makes you look full force retarded so some people are avoiding doing that.

Given the current state of almost every AAA publisher these days I'll always err on the side of them being greedy fucks.

Given the size and scope of a PS1 era RPG, thinking about converting that to today's graphics. I fully buy it.

More information is filtering through about the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake, thanks to an interview to Producer Yoshinori Kitase and Director Tetsuya Nomura just published by Famitsu.

We learn that for certain elements of the models the team has requested the involvement of Square Enix Visual Works (that normally takes care of the publisher’s cinematics), while secondary characters are being handled by the Italian Character Designer Roberto Ferrari (a Tatsunoko Productions veteran who recently worked on Final Fantasy Type-0 and XV).

Development will also involve CyberConnect 2 (that worked on several Naruto titles, the .hack series and Final Fantasy VII G-Bike), as they have experience with action games and a rich technical know-how.

The interview also explains that the reason why Square Enix was hesitating to remake the game in the past, is that re-creating the game with the current technology is an enormous amount of work. Properly maintaining the “density” of the original game while remaking it in high definition can’t fit in a single release.

If they wanted to fit everything in a single release, they’d have to cut the game in a variety of places. It would be some sort of summary of Final Fantasy VII, and it wouldn’t make sense.

The team wants to include things they couldn’t do in the original game, like exploring the various locations of Midgar. Although there might be some parts that will be removed from the original for a variety of reasons, there will also be additional ones, and the team expects the overall size of the game to increase.

More details about the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake have been shared by Director Tetsuya Nomura and Producer Yoshinori Kitase in a new interview on Famitsu (a couple of elements were integrated from Dengeki Online).

We learn that the team is aiming to balance realism and stylized look. If the characters were to appear too realistic, they wouldn’t be recognizable, so they’re looking to settle one step shorter of realism in order to preserve the characters personalities.

The models from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children are too outdated to be used, as they’re ten years old. Elements like eyes, nose, hair and more have to be redesigned to achieve the right visual balance. Cloud looks suitably pale (even if the lighting influenced that in the trailer), and all party members will get a renewed appearance. Incidentally, the cross-dressing scene is still part of the scenario, but the design for it still has to be finalized.

It was also confirmed that in the latest trailer, all the new footage is running in-engine in real-time. The moment in which the camera pans behind Cloud and Barret after jumping down from the train is where the in-engine cinematics transition seamlessly into gameplay.

The battle system will have nothing to do with Final Fantasy VII: Crysis Core. It’s closer to Kingdom Hearts or Dissidia: Final Fantasy (Arcade version), but it’s still different and not as action-oriented.

The battle pace the team is aiming for is similar to Dissidia: Final Fantasy, but it will have an element of strategy. Players won’t just aimlessly strike at the enemy. In order to achieve this kind of flavor, the team has gathered developers that worked on both Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts.

There will be a sort of ATB gauge and Limit gauge, even if it won’t be the same as in the original game. You won’t have to wait for the ATB gauge to fill in order to attack, but it will be a new system integrated in the action style of the game. Nomura-san won’t say much for now, but something relevant is that it can become red in color. The “ATB” name might change in the final game.

The party will include three members like in the original game, and you’ll be able to freely switch the one you’re controlling among them at any time. On the other hand, if you don’t want to switch, there won’t be any need to.

The remake will delve more deeply into certain aspects of the story, and will include a number of new mechanics. The team hopes to manage to surprise even those who already played the game.

Kitase-san also mentioned that the quality of the PlayStation Experience trailer should be considered just a starting point, and everything will be polished from now onward. He doesn’t want the remake to be just a matter of nostalgia, but something that can excite the fans of the original game.

Nomura-san concluded the interview on Famitsu explaining that the cheers he heard at the keynote gave him confidence that that the direction they have chosen is not wrong, and now he can continue to work with peace of mind. He would like to continue to improve the game’s quality in the future.

Each episode will obviously be much bigger than just 1 full size game.

I might be a minority in this but it'd be nice if they changed it a little to add a new party member to replace Aeris, basically all her limits but not her.

Also if they are doing episodic I hope they add some Advent Children stuff.

Keep in mind that the standard game price of $60 bucks hasn't changed since the SNES days; if you think most companies are ripping you off, realize you should be paying ~$100 for the same new release, adjusted for inflation. You're also usually getting much more content, for that same $60 bucks, generally speaking.

Good to know they won't be cutting bits out of the story to make release date. Hell, just shut down XIV, and move their staff to this game to expedite the process. I'd rather get VII sooner than wait for XIV to become good.

After reading that Famitsu article, I'm at the point where I can rightfully say fuck anyone and everyone who thinks that this team has or will mess up this game in some form or fashion, be it battle content, story, pacing or what have you.

You just don't make statements like that anymore -- Nomura and Kitase are aiming to floor the original with the remake and are going all out to see to it. The game is in good hands.

I quite like the idea of exploring more of Midgar. We only get to explore a tiny portion of it in the original game. They could expand the story there easily by going into events before the original start (where Cloud jumps off the train).

It's hard to envisage a multi episode game based on the original because you'd normally expect each episode to have an ending but we already know the story and it would be weird if an episode suddenly ended when you enter a certain town or defeat a certain boss. FFXIII was a trilogy but each game still had a recognisable ending.
