VIII gets plenty of fanservice. After VII (and probably V and VI) I don't see why a remake wouldn't be considered. Especially if VIIr sells well and is overall praised.
My hopes in a good FFVI a rerelease or remake were killed by the recent ports and horrible "updated" sprites
Without even looking at any numbers, its easy to sum up FF7's popularity.
FF7 wasn't even on a Nintendo system but Cloud is in Smash Bros instead of any FF6 character.
Its so popular that the man is the face of the series.
That is absolutely why we are getting this remake. Its been asked for so many times over the years.
It feels like they're confident in FFXV either way. Didn't they say they didn't want to do a remake until they make a better FF than VII?
Then again, I guess it could just be that they didn't have the technology to realize their vision for the game until now.
They've done better than 7 overall in terms of story/gameplay, but 7 is easily the most popular. Most of that is cause of misconceptions though. Same with X and XIII. Every new generation of FF games does well then not so well.
Yes it's beating a dead horse, but IX needs some love too, IX and XII are the only 2 Pre PS3 games, that have not been retouched yet
VIII did get a kind of HD rerelease on steam
They said they wouldn't consider it until another FF surpasses VII.
XI surpassed VII in pure profit alone (and was SE's sole money maker for the longest of time) also did what VII did (introduced a new generation to MMORPGs, especially within the series by being their first MMO or the fact it was a success for being the first Online FF in general) and then comes FFXIII which was a financial success since like or hate it, it was one of the most anticipated FF titles in a long time. This was just one of Wada's excuses to not give what the people wanted since he also said it would take "10+ years to do"..so if that's the case this game logically can't come out in the near future even episodically.
It's hard to beat out VII in terms of popularity simply because it was a lot of people's first FF game and RPG - that's something that won't ever be beaten. But IX certainly did better as it even had the old school feel to it.
It's a move used during the fight.
Oh you mean every PS1/2 FF game? 7 is a middle-tier FF (which is still a pretty good game) that kicked off arguably the best era of the series. Ones like 12 and 8 were more polarizing, certainly, but are much better experiences to those that like them. 7's major strength, aside from the gateway nostalgia, is its consistency. It does everything with a solid B+ with no blatant, glaring flaws.
And it has materia.
Easily my favorite growth system in the whole series.
And the Golden Saucer, really.
Those two put it over the top for me, def tied for my fav with FFXII.
Materia is dope, but let's be real
It's no JP
I liked IX's AP system more honestly. The only downside was carrying around soooooo much stuff if you were prone to OCD.
-1000 points for the kimahri name
