Under the hood, totally different beast. Especially when you learn how to properly link materia and learn secrets of the system.

If you (for an example) were to link a mastered Lightning Materia to an "All" and then linked another mastered Lightning Materia to a "Steal as Well", you can cast lightning on all enemies and steal from them at the same time.
No other FF does stuff like that. Not a single one.

I liked that Triple Triad was an alternate way to get magic rather than drawing all day and the (small) risk/reward you had to think about when actually casting from your own spell stock and that the system let you do stuff like having a high-stats-meteor-spamming-angel-wings-rinoa but, you're right. It was a bit flawed. Rather than thinking about when to cast spells, it usually came down to just not casting anything that wasn't Aura.

I replayed 8 recently and it was a lot more fun with a cheat code on that lets you draw 100 at a time and lose no spells when casting lol. As far as 7, after replaying it on PS4 recently it really has not aged well lol.

I liked IX's AP system more honestly. The only downside was carrying around soooooo much stuff if you were prone to OCD.

Gotta agree with this. Even with 2 characters having the "summoner" job, they were still unique in how their summons worked.

My OCD was the opposite, I have a tough time tossing shit away (probably because of playing this game when I was young lol). And then leveling, using the guide book, making sure everyone had everything mastered and etc. Getting the Excalibur or Save the Queen or whatever the Steiner weapon was that you had to get to a certain part of the game within a certain time was more or less impossible for me lol

The system itself was good in concept, just not in practice. The GF system was great and should have been expanded upon... it was a great way to learn skills and should have been similar to how it worked in FF6. Drawing magic would have been good without the stat junctions and the limitation that the magic in general sucked and added nothing to the fights.

The fact that you could use items that made you invincible and set off unlimited Limit Breaks broke the game and made magic obsolete and pointless.

I have a save saved somewhere where I got this, and started doing optimal leveling. Never finished.

I learned so much about that game doing a E2PG (Excalibur II Perfect Game) run and boy did that ruin FFIX for me.
The more I understood about the game, the less I liked it.

I had the exact opposite experience with FFVII though. Learning more about the game and busting it wide open only makes it love it more every time I play it.

Well, you could always stretch it out to somewhere in the ballpark of 2 years and a little over 3 months!

2 separate things. System clock maxes out at 99 hours. But you have to wait actual 2 years and 3 months for it to "reset" so that the 12 hour window is open again.

At least thats what I understood.

It tracks time beyond 100 hours, it just doesn't show it.

It only shows 99:99:59 but keeps counting. Once it reaches 2 years and 98 days, the timer resets to 0.
