Bought this a couple days ago, was worried all the hype was gonna leave me disappointed, but I'm loving the shit out of it.

What difficulty was/is everyone playing on?

Took me a while to adjust to the aim/look sensitivity. Currently playing on normal. Would like to go thru a 2nd time and play on Very Hard.

Also, I'm obsessed with modifications. So much that I've bought 2 of almost every weapon so I don't have to remember to swap out the modifications back and forth. Instead I just switch bows. Max tear bow vs max damage bow. Max frost sling vs max shock sling, max frost bow vs max shock bow vs max corruption bow, etc.

I normally like my games on hard, but I honestly just played on normal. Harder difficulty levels just made fights last longer and felt like it had no real purpose.

Not really. It spoils less than the official trailers did, and doesn't go into particulars, but if you're really wanting to ensure every last thing is a surprise then you might want to wait to watch.

Just started this game yesterday and holy shit it's good. Got a new 4k TV for it and the game is just gorgeous. Gameplay feels so fluid too, the controls, movement, weapons all feel natural, and it's just fun.

Hoping the story lives up to the rest of the game.

edit: Also, is this a game I should get a guide for and follow along so I'm not missing key stuff, or should/can I just play through it naturally and figure shit out and not miss major/cool stuff?

There aren't really any missables except for maybe some lore stuff that has no effect on gameplay or achievements.

This. I don't think I noticed anything that can be considered a lost forever in my play-through. Even if you don't do all the sidequests/missions once once you beat the game and sit through the ending/credits you load back to where you were before the final point of no return to clear anything missed.

Progression in this game is very natural and fluid. The story and all quests spreads you out thru the entire map so you will eventually uncover everything naturally. The design of it is quite beautiful.

Of course you are free to go wherever you like once you leave the early Nora Lands. You cant really out-level content because levels only give you more HP and unlocks more useful skills.

Loving this game. My only gripe is not being able to drop/toss treasure boxes. The ones that contain rocks and rock bundles are highly annoying. Not being able to discard them is a pain.

So I'm starting to find the game pretty annoying for a couple reasons:

Finding fucking anything takes me 10 times longer than it should because:

There's not a god damned flash light in the game, so when it's nighttime I can't see pathways or rockfaces or areas I'm supposed to go/jump to get anywhere.
There's not a god damned minimap, so I'm just constantly tabbing between.

For instance, I'm looking for a vantage point, and I see a tall building, I spent 10 minutes inside and around it just jumping against the wall trying to find a hand hook, and half the time when I do it doesnt go anywhere. So I don't know if I'm just not jumping in the right direction, or whether I'm in the wrong place.

Finding metal flowers/ancient vessels, and navigating ruins is just a huge pain in the ass because of this.

Also is the Rattler any good? What do you use it for? Says close range but I just use my spear for that.

The Rattler is fun when you get different kinds of bolts for it and can tear a robot to shred in seconds. Or a person.

I beat this a couple days ago, went back to knock out all those Grazer dummies for the Platinum. Great game, loved it start to finish. Maybe a bit of a lull in the middle, but probably because I was spending so much time wandering around the map that I hit level 50 and so couldn't really enjoy any of the EXP rewards anymore.
