Overall though, I'm happy-ish with the deal. I was worried Maatta or Poulliout would be gone, waking up on 7/2 with both still in the lineup (and Sutter!) is better than I expected. Sad to see ANOTHER 1st rd pick go but thats life. Kessel will play with Crosby for sure. I expect Malkin to take Hornqvist. I worry due to the type of player he is that this deal only makes us a better regular season team. I'm not sure if it makes us a better playoff team, which is all any Pens fan should really care about.

Thats a lot of holes to fill on 6 mil, while leaving cap space for injury callups, not to mention that fourth line and 3rd D pairing will be weak. They're going to have to be sheltered hard, which means more Dzone deployment for your top lines, or your top players will be playing 20+ min a night on a regular basis and your top 2 D playing 25+ a night on a regular basis. You might have some regular season success...the tank will run empty come playoff time.

Or, they roll all 4 lines and play high scoring games all season long. In which case, they might as well trade MAF and get a goalie with a 2m cap hit.

Beau Bennett hasnt been signed yet...just because he's RFA doesnt mean he's automatically yours next season for free. He can get nabbed by an offersheet as well.

Dustin Tokarski was good in the AHL too, he's a pretty shitty NHL goalie. But you've got your backup G, 620k cap, free space down to 4,885,001. You still have your 4 forward holes to fill, as well as your two riding pine incase of injuries. You have 4.9 mil available to get 6 roster spots filled, an average of 814k each.




My previous statement holds true: you're either riding 3 F lines and 2 D lines all season long, or you're planning to play in high scoring games. You dont have any "cheap hot prospects" to fill the roster with, you kept trading your top picks to "win now"

The dude from the KHL is Sergei Plotnikov. He played on Malkin's wing during the Worlds. Everything I'm reading says decent skill, fast, plays with a mean streak and throws the body around. They signed him to an ELC and I have no doubt he'll be tried out as Malkin's winger. So in theory Pens lines may look like this.

Kessel - Crosby - Perron
Hornqvist - Malkin - Plotnikov
Kunitz - Sutter - Dupuis
Bennett - Sundquist - Sheary

Letang - Maata
Pouliot - Dumoulin

The fourth line is really up in the air. Bennett hasn't been signed yet. Sundquist and Sheary have zero NHL experience. Zatkoff already has a season as MAF's backup under his belt and he could potentially be beat out by Murray. Really the odd man out with picking up Kessel and Plotnikov is Beau Bennett.

Happy with the Preds' moves thus far. Needed a veteran, stay-at-home presence on D and Jackman fits that role perfectly; can keep him in the third pairing with the depth of our talent on the backend, which is where he can flourish (also a lefty which was big). Picked up Hodgson for nothing; if he works out, great, otherwise no risk there. Signed Ribeiro for two years at a sub-4 cap hit. Re-sign Fish, one of my favorite players in the entire NHL, for two years.

No big splashes, but Poile did some good work quietly. We finished third in the West last year; I'm largely fine with standing pat.

I've been a Center Ice / GCL subscriber since 2008. Nice to get a discount, but it doesn't resolve the blackout issues from what I can tell. And man, early NHL Center Ice was TERRIBLE. The cable package was the only option when it started and originally there were only 1 or 2 HD channels that were almost always O6 teams or other large markets. My first two seasons, I think the Preds had a total of like 6 HD games. Additionally, sometimes you would get the "scoreboard" feed, which is just a camera on the ice with no graphics and no commentators; we may complain about Emrick, etc., but let me tell you that watching a game without a PxP / commentator and no graphics sucks. I used to have to keep ESPN up to be sure I had the score right.
