He'll be a UFA at the end of the year, and even if he sucks, he'll still get $54784397953458 since teams just throw money around now.
He's like Mike Green where offensively it's nice, but from the red line back, it's "Oh shit, he's on the ice." But if Green is getting 6m a year from Detroit, you know Schultz is gonna be wanting 5 or more next summer. But a one year deal means he can be traded much easier, so there's that.

With as much offensive octane as the Oil has (pun intended :D) his offensive numbers wouldn't really be lost at all I'd think. Sure he can put up some decent numbers but considering his overall lack of development since they got him, I feel like you'd be better off getting rid of him if he doesn't improve his overall game over the course of the year.

Kesler deal is just funny. Hell be 32 i think we the deal kicks in and with the style he plays hell probably start to go down hill pretty quickly.

Ducks have a lot cap space it really doesnt mean much because they will never spend up to the cap. They are a budget team which is why they are never really active in UFA.

Next season they have 4 guys over 31 making 30 mil combined, 3 of which are now signed long term lol.

The Kesler deal really sounds like they are locking up a center for a 3-4 year window at winning the cup and then they'll either trade him or buy him out. Also Bieksa got a sweet extension from Anaheim too. Kesler and Bieksa have the same agent by the way.

Like I already said though cap space doesn't mean much when they work on their own budget and wont speed anywhere close to the cap.

They are also starting to become pretty top heavy again.

Its kinda funny how they always are one of the top teams in the west but pretty middle of the pack or lower on major stats. I had no idea their PP was so bad.

The fact that Rutherford didn't buy out Scuderi or trade off Kunitz is going to fucking hurt. If things stay as they are right now the Pens are one injury away from playing with 5 D again. If he doesn't make a move to free up cap space I think ownership will need to look very hard at his approach to this team.
