Pictures and New Line Cinema comes award-winning filmmaker Ryan Coogler’s “Creed.” The film explores a new chapter in the “Rocky” story and stars Academy Award nominee Sylvester Stallone in his iconic role. The film also reunites Coogler with his “Fruitvale Station” star Michael B. Jordan as the son of Apollo Creed.

Adonis Johnson (Jordan) never knew his famous father, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. Still, there’s no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed’s legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa.

Once in the City of Brotherly Love, Adonis tracks Rocky (Stallone) down and asks him to be his trainer. Despite his insistence that he is out of the fight game for good, Rocky sees in Adonis the strength and determination he had known in Apollo—the fierce rival who became his closest friend. Agreeing to take him on, Rocky trains the young fighter, even as the former champ is battling an opponent more deadly than any he faced in the ring.

With Rocky in his corner, it isn’t long before Adonis gets his own shot at the title…but can he develop not only the drive but also the heart of a true fighter, in time to get into the ring?

“Creed” also stars Tessa Thompson (“Selma,” “Dear White People”) as Bianca, a local singer-songwriter who becomes involved with Adonis; Phylicia Rashad (Lifetime’s “Steel Magnolias”) as Mary Anne Creed, Apollo’s widow; and English pro boxer and former three-time ABA Heavyweight Champion Anthony Bellew as boxing champ “Pretty” Ricky Conlan.

I fucking love how they're acknowledging Rocky IV exists after the last movie did everything in it's power to ignore it. Embrace the franchise as a whole, I feel this would make a way better spin-off franchise.

Rocky V "didn't exist". That's the one with Tommy Gunn. I mean. If there was a Rocky V... Unless there were glaring things I missed in Rocky Balboa? It's been a while since I watched that one.

Day 1 for sure for me. Grew up watching the Rocky movies; one of my all time favorite franchises.

Rocky IV was the best, no substitute. That shit came out when I was 2 years old and still resonates with me today. I'll pretty much see this movie out of respect to Rocky IV, but I'm not sure if I'm interested in a spin-off.

I'm hoping they get Dolph Lundgren to do a cameo, how great would that be?

Who then decided it was time to get his life together, so he dyed his hair blonde and joined a fraternity with Taylor Lautner before promptly being thrown over a house by super-powered Steel.

Saw it last night and absolutely loved it. Brilliant successor to the Rocky franchise that's able to stand on it's own, but gives just enough homage to its roots. Jordan was amazing in giving Adonis his own identity and Stallone is still the same lovable Rocky we all grew up with.

Loved the final round with the throwback to Rocky I where there's a fight ending eye injury and using an illegal practice to keep the fight going. Adonis finally being honest with Rocky in stating he wants to prove he wasn't a "mistake." God damn! That whole scene was amazing along with many others.

The final scene with Adonis helping Rocky walk up the famous steps brought me to tears.
