Law school isnt nearly as much work as a lawyer job 9-5+. Take it from somebody who has been there and done that. Not to mention you can study w/e you want while actual work doesn't allow that.

but your obviously a very adamant special snowflake regarding your ability to do things in a schedule most others cant and/or don't want to do. And frankly I dont find raiding that much even fun, so good for you in that you enjoy it to want to do it that much each week

This. I was still doing like 6-10 hours/day of FFXI while in law school. Now with work I'm lucky to have 3 hours a night, a couple nights a week, to do anything. (Note: I'm not complaining about not being able to put in the time for savage, but A3S has gotten me to the point of "fuck this shit" and my static is starting to dread even practicing the fight)

I work a 9-6 as a Navy recruiter, sometimes 5am-6pm. I have no problem raiding 3-4hrs a day during progression patches. I still find time to do things I enjoy outside the game. The biggest benefit of having a raid schedule like that is once progression is over we have less raid time than ppl that spend 3-4 hrs a week that are still doing progression. It's just a matter of motivation to fit it all into your schedule.

I don't understand why this is so hard for people to understand.

Some work schedules combined with fortunate circumstances in finding a group that caters to availability allows for that kind of time to be thrown on raiding.

Others do not. Be it from a lack of time in general, or simply being unable to find a group that plays when they do, or erratic life conditions that make it impossible to dedicate huge chunks of time every week at the same hours.

It is not a "matter of motivation," it is a matter of circumstance, and for some people these circumstances work out. For others, they do not.

How is it not a matter of motivation? If you have a busy / erratic schedule and want to raid you'll try to do anything you can to raid if you desire to raid. If something is important to you, you'll try a lot harder to make time for it. That's literally how anything works in your life. If your hobby is an Adult Dodgeball team that requires you to go and practice / play 2-3 times a week for 2-3 hours, you make time for it. If you want to be healthy going to the gym, you make time for it.

Raiding is important to people so they are more motivate to make time for it in their schedule. It's such an easy concept to understand, but because this is a VIDEO GAME people have a hard time comprehending it.

I remember when pulling the IRL card as an excuse for sucking was met with a prompt "get the fuck out" by the majority of this community during the FFXI era. At times when I see how far the pendulum has swung, it makes me pretty sad.

There's a difference between sucking and not being able to raid as much as you'd like to.

And "I can't raid because I have to work" is not "pulling the RL card" unless you think people use the fact that they have obligations to somehow brag about how awesome and busy their lives are....

If "I can't raid because of xxx that takes place in not-the-game" isn't a real life card then I don't know what is.

This is pulling the RL card:

I'm curious. What do you do that doesn't allow you to raid. I know some people with messed up schedules that find time to raid every day. It's seriously just a matter of motivation to raid and find a group yet you say you don't get to raid as much as you would like to. Simple solution: raid more.

Personally, the availability times of my static.

I have the time to raid much more than we do but they don't, and I like them, and I'd rather run with people I know and like than have to find a new group of people I may not.

We may not run as often as I'd want to but the times we do run we start on time and don't have people constantly not showing up and/or dropping out of the group, which is why I left my previous static.

I was just talking about that the other day. Sad, sad days. Can we go back to the days of just being blunt to people who are bad?

I can relate to this. My group was in the same boat. We always had 2-3 people with odd times/days that limited how much we could run in a given week (near the end this was basically me). But it was never to the point where we'd consider perma-repping, given that the core group had been together since 2.0, T5. It was just a fact of life, we didn't have the hours in a week to put in.

All I've gleaned from this circle jerk is time spent being directly proportional to clears, but kudos for being the top 1% of spending time in Alexander

Whats it like to be so heavily invested into a flaming pile of shit that its your only source of validation besides "going to school for something"

as an aside I'm training to be an astronaut
