Remake from Atlus & VanillaWare

Leifdrasir is described as “very different” from an HD remaster of the original Odin Sphere, which launched for PlayStation 2 in 2007, but rather a re-created version of the game featuring fully evolved gameplay systems. Judging by one of the main menu options, there also appears to be a “Classic Mode.”

Figures this happens shortly after I picked up the PSN copy during that sale. Guess I'll beat that one over the year it'll take for this version to get localized, then nab Leifdrasir for the new mode on Vita.

Muramasa/Dragon's Crown looked gorgeous on the Vita OLED, I expect no less of this.

Ohnishi: “While we loved Odin Sphere, it’s a game that received some critical feedback. It was made as a successor to Princess Crown, but the result was something that betrayed the original form.

“Because we released it with slowdowns and such, we couldn’t just do a simple HD-ification.

“We didn’t want to seem like we thought, ‘sure enough it’s an old title, so,’ so instead thought we should rebuild it all again as we would a new VanillaWare game.

“But on the other hand, since I’m sure we’ll have players that value the original version, we have the completely preserved original version included in HD [via Classic Mode]. We decided to make it a double-feature.”

Regarding new mechanics…

“We’re putting in mid-boss monsters not included in the original version. They’re called mid-bosses, but they’re more splendidly made than the old bosses. And enemies from the original game have a new thought logic to them, so you can play it with a fresh sense.

“The controls have a Dragon’s Crown and Muramasa-like familiarity and easier sense of control to them.”

Japanese Demo is now available
New Game+ , Boss Rush, & Hell mode announced

After clearing the game, “Xtra New Game” is unlocked. Through this mode, you can choose from your save data and play the game from the beginning while inheriting your items and ability level. If you select the “Hell” difficulty, you can play the game in a super hard mode where your HP never increases from its initial 200-point value.

Enemies are more difficult on the second playthrough. Even if you play on normal, if your characters aren’t sufficiently leveled, then it’ll be tough.There are also new enemies and weapons.

There is also a 30-round special boss rush mode where you can battle all of the game’s mid-bosses and bosses with your favorite character. They’re all set to level 50 and there are no checkpoints or opportunities to use items boxes.

nooooooooo why is the PS4 version the only one with the Storybook Edition I don't have a PS4 and doubt I will ever get one.


regardless I'll have to dust off my PS3 for this one. looks like they weren't kidding when they said this isn't just a HD remake. tons of new moves, new areas, revamped gameplay in general. Vanillaware has their own spot on my shelves, and considering how few games they have made - that's saying something about how much I love their work. Even so, Odin Sphere has always been my favorite in regards to graphics, game progression, and general atmosphere. The only thing that really held it back for me was the clunky combat, something Muramasa improved upon drastically... and now it looks like they took what they learned from Muramasa and poured it into this remake. Seriously. Dreams really do come true...
